Thanks all. It was the ariel socket on the telly. The Telewest digiebox was connected via scart cable so I didn't know the ariel socket was knackered. We are using a different telly and it's fine.

Help! I have just aquired a thing called a freeview top box for my telly, but it doesn't work. It has been suggested that these things do not work in Portobello at all. Surely not! If anyone has one which works, please let me know. I think the service offered by Telewest is too much. (Costs too much...
