Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

How about this from the 'Save Porty Park, Facebook page: We are pleased to hear that funding has been announced for St. John's Primary School but we are concerned that Edinburgh Council may now have their eye on Brighton Park, Daisy Park or Rosefield Park as possible sites, given their central loca...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

Avril: this comment by Andy Wightman might help: I am not a sour-faced wee man. I am actually quite bright and cheery. Anyhow, I just want to place on the record that I have never claimed that the land is common good. I merely suggested that it might be back in 2006. I took no part in any campaign ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

I'm sorry Commander but I really do think that your ideas are nuts. Liking the drawings but your cut and paste efforts are terrible. Are you not for saving green space or is it just green space close to your home? Figgy Park is well used by a lot of different people because it is a very nice space. ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

Can't say I've read back through all the recent pages but has anyone mentioned that the park may actually not be on Common Good ground. Would this not leave the latest judgment somewhat in doubt? What are the avenues for taking this forward as building on the park is only merely delayed by the lates...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

The route from the parsons green catchment to castlebrae would take the children along Duddingston rd West, a busy road already congested with High school kids walking towards Holyrood, it's a narrow path and franck is suggesting two way taffic of teenage pedestrians in rush hour. Yes I am.Just as ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

All reasonable points. As I said in my last post, Brunstane and Parsons Green must take a decent number out of the equation. A new Castlebrae starts with a clean slate, new teachers, new pupils so the stats are ignored.I'd hope that any kind of snobbery didn't come into it, and anyway, a new school ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

I reckon the council needs to come up with an alternative pretty fast to satisfy the masses. They have funding for one large high school but two too small current high schools to build them on.The solution?Redraw the boundaries, build two new schools, help regenerate Craigmillar, lose no common good ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

If we are going to aquire the Park through something like an act of Parliament then I think we should stop pussyfooting around and really build a flagship school that has everything. This means aquiring the entire grassland area including the golf course, which in all honesty, was by far and away t...

New Portobello High School - hold a local referendum

Why can't there be a local referendum? Let's confirm that the majority of the community actually want the school built on the park. Well we already know it but lets make it offical. I asked the question to Andy Whiteman on his blog on the matter and his reply was: It is high time we knew what the pe...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

How many Porty parents have voiced a desire to have a joint Portobello/Castlebrae school in Craigmillar as reported here? Can't say I've heard any. http://www.scotsman.com/edinburgh-evening-news/education/portobello-high-school-ruling-council-ponder-next-move-as-park-plan-is-overturned-on-appeal-1-...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

I have watched this debate from a distance since it began and I have to say that I am actually stunned that the school is not going ahead. I am a fan of Portobello Park as it is and I like walking my dog round it and I like the views down to the sea from Milton Road, however, I have also grown to r...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

Do any of the main people against using the park for the new school, whoever they are, have any kids going to PHS? I'm just trying to figure out if it is down to pure NIMBY or do they have a real love for this park that is never actually used by anyone. Does anyone have a list of possible alternativ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal

Be interesting to see if anyone from PPAG is there to defend their actions in light of the overwhelming reaction to this news!! I doubt it. They claimed that they didn't have anyone at the Community Council meeting on the issue becasue they would have felt intimidated. I can't even bring myself to ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG Judicial Review

Well we always said we would have to abide by the law. All along we've been led to believe we were in the legal right, turns out not. I feel totally devastated for the school, its community and the community at large. Who know where we go from here. Congratulation to the Connelly's, Cairns, Hawkins...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG Judicial Review

This is an absolute joke. Time and time again it is approved and this is somehow not good enough. What is our right of appeal? Do we have a right of appeal? If not why not? The law is an ass. This will now cause much unrest in our community and feelings of anger will be running very high. I hope tha...
