Suggestions so far: (snip) Golf Course near new Power League site. (not sure where GT means?) Oh dear, I seem to be causing some confusion here! The suggestion was to build the school where it's suggested the Powerleague be relocated, instead of the Powerleague, leaving the latter where it is (unle...

That one's already been thought of GT. It was felt that a) the site was too small and b) it's too much 'in' Portobello and not central to the catchment area, although it would have been a nice walk to school for me along the beach :D Sorry Epykat, I may not have made myself clear. I was referring t...

How about building the school where the Powerleague is supposed to be being relocated? This is in the catchment area. The council will not, of course, be able to sell off the existing Powerleague site for development - but then, making a killing on the deal isn't the council's main motivation here -...

Amalgamate with Holyrood...(snip)...it's not directly in the catchment area Holyrood must be very close to the catchment area. Anyone know exactly where the border runs? Sorry, forgot about no.6 - sell the old school site to build more flats on and that even keeps Lawrence happy. I've a better idea...

There is a council facility at craigentinny, which in terms of travel is less distance than 1450 PHS pupils have to travel to do PE at either Cavalry Park or Meadowbank. Do the Math. I'm not sure that the Craigentinny Golf Course is closer to the Portobello one, nor even to Portobello centre, than ...

Devil's advocate
[tinhatmode] Why not combine the rebuilding of Portobello HS with that of Holyrood HS (currently on hold) and build a combined school on one site? Possibly Portobello FP RFC might benefit from this in receiving new facilities in return for giving up some of the open space at Cavalry Fields. That sat...

Golf is rich sport and is amply provided for. Can't agree with you there, Porty. If the sport is "rich" it's only because the well-off exclude the poorer participants. Facilities like Portobello are needed to encourage kids to take up the game - they wont get a look-in at most clubs unless Daddy kn...

Find me a clarsach!
Best place to buy a clarsach is the International Harp Festival, held in Edinburgh in April (next one is 6-12 April). Otherwise you could hire one from the Clarsach Society for approx £25 per month.

Unfortunately, in my experience, the only way a big sign would have an effect on the average motorist in Edinburgh is if you hit him over the head with it!maggle wrote:How about a big sign saying local traffic only, might not cost much, but could see if it worked.

The main problem with roundabouts is that they rely on responsible users and they seem to be in short supply these days! You don't have to wait long at Harry Lauder Roundabout to find cars turning right from the left-hand lane or not signalling. Used poorly, they are dangerous, particularly to more ...

It might be industrial pollution to some, but you can't beat the smell from a coffee roasting factory or from a brewery or distillery.
