This postcard from the National series included the following lines of verse:
From Portobello, with Kindly Greeting

Of all the places on the coast,
That ever I heard tell o',
For pleasant air and fine broad sands,
There's nane like Portobello.

Here you may live a hundred years,
And aye look fresh and mellow.
Promenading on the front,
Like ony fine young fellow,

Ye city folks wha carry hame
Saut water in a pail, o',
Just try oor bath, it's big enough,
'Twould easy soom a whale, o'.

The hills o' Fife are to the north,
And yonder's Berwick Law, o',
And just a bit along the Forth,
Is ancient Fisheraw, o'.

If you are doon and oot o' sorts,
Come here and try a spell, o',
'Twill mak' you fresh and young again,
Such life's in Portobello.
