Streetscape improvements at 65 - 77 Porty High St

Just to prove that not all planning applications are bad news, here is a very welcome scheme submitted by CEC to "enhance the streetscape quality and create garden space outwith housing" at the flats opposite the Pitz, 65 - 77 Portobello High Street. The area at present, you will recall, has cobbles set into concrete which does little to soften the brutalism of one of the worst local examples of 1960s architecture.

For those of you who just want to see what it will look like, here is the General Arrangement drawing. I'm hopeless at visualising these things but PAS are in favour so the design must be up to scratch.

Apologies. I had assumed that everyone was familiar with this acronym. Portobello Amenity Society, a voluntary group, vets all local planning applications on behalf of Portobello Community Council and does much else besides to improve the quality of life in Portobello. The chair, John Stewart, is one of the lynchpins in the campaign against the superstore.

Annual membership is £5 and well worth supporting.

This looks like an excellent design, which will improve the ghastly 60s housing as well as the rest of the street.

I like the parallel parking option as well.
