Freeview or Digibox?

Post by janetfenton » 29 Aug 2005, 07:56

Help! I have just aquired a thing called a freeview top box for my telly, but it doesn't work. It has been suggested that these things do not work in Portobello at all. Surely not! If anyone has one which works, please let me know. I think the service offered by Telewest is too much. (Costs too much a month, shows too much telly) so I would like the freeview box to work.

No problem at all with mine... If you get a decent analogue signal, then it should be ok for freeview.

I even had freeview working off a portable aerial, before I got sorted out and got up onto the roof to install a proper aerial! Working, but on-and-off...

Could be a problem with the box. Our first freeview box (sony) wouldn't pick up ITV or Channel 4 programmes, but was okay with all of the others. We took it back and had it replaced, with no problems. They are only a mini-computer and suffer the same software/hardware glitches.

If it's not that, it could be your aerial. Aerial fitters now have a little gizmo which they can plug into your freeview box to tell if it's working alright and then into the aerial to make sure that it's okay.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

Mines work fine, and I'm in an area with weak signal.

Indoor ariels are not too great, if you've got an outdoor one might just be something your doing not quite right. :?

Yes I am fine too with my freeview box - although I occasionally have a reception problem with one or two channels. Also means that I can now get Channel 5 :)

Thanks all. It was the ariel socket on the telly. The Telewest digiebox was connected via scart cable so I didn't know the ariel socket was knackered. We are using a different telly and it's fine.
