Gedge,
I couldn't remember your line being in the song, I was responding more to Alex's line that he thought was from the same song. Happy memories indeed! I haven't a clue where yours is from, though.
Mr M,
Thanks so much - i love it. Sometimes live she recites her songs as peoms and they sound amazing, and it takes a while to realise it's actually a song you know.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

Well spotted Gedge. It's from 'Sixteen', a track from their 77 debut LP, Another Music In A Different Kitchen. I'm on a bit of a Buzzcocks kick at the moment, since Spike alerted me to a Radio 2 feature on the band the other night. If you missed it, you can still hear the show online until Saturday at:

Gedge, I think you were thinking of the track "Brilliant Mistake" which, of course, is a much better song than "Brilliant Disguise".ali wrote:It's Bruce Springsteen - it was all there in the signature - "brilliant disguise"Gedge wrote:Is anyone playing "Spot the signature" any more? Pal of Porty I would say yours comes from a Costello track - something off King of America?

Sorry, everyone!
I just used the online OED for a definition of 'jay', and it came up with quotes. This one is apparently from "Meditations and Contemplations", 2 volumes by James Hervey, published between 1746 and 1747.
I didn't know that, either! Not till I used the OED! But I thought it might come up on a search for everyone else ....
The OED online is wonderful for obscure knowledge and quotes!

One of the greatest singers in the world. A song he recorded called "He stopped loving her today" has been voted on several occasions as the greatest country song ever recorded! The lyrics of which really belong on the Big Sap thread.
He Stopped Loving Her Today
(B. Braddock, C. Putman)
He said, "I'll love you 'til I die."
She told him, "You'll forget in time."
As the years went slowly by,
She still prayed upon his mind.
He kept her picture on the wall.
Went half crazy now and then.
But he still loved her through it all,
Hoping she'd come back again.
Kept some letters by his bed,
Dated 1962.
He had underlined in red
Every single 'I love you'.
I went to see him just today,
But I didn't see no tears.
All dressed up to go away,
First time I'd seen him smile in years.
He stopped loving her today,
They placed a wreath upon his door,
And soon they'll carry him away,
He stopped loving her today.
You know, she came to see him last time.
And we were all wonderin' if she would.
And it kept runnin' through my mind,
This time he's over her for good.
He stopped loving her today,
They placed a wreath upon his door,
And soon they'll carry him away,
He stopped loving her today.
He was also married to Tammy Wynette for a while.
