Hello again from Jay - for an hour!

Post by Jay » 14 Oct 2006, 12:41

Hello to everyone again! :hello2:

This time I have logged in at the beginning of the hour in the library ......

..... however, I have a couple of important (and long!) mails to send, so I may not be able to say much on the forum! I will keep popping in to read it though ........

I have seen the thread about the POL night out - haven't had time to read it ...... yet ...... I will! I will! :D :drunken:

By the way, Porty, yes, I do still live on the High Street - and shop there. I have gone past your office several times, but never seen you. When I do, I'll put my head round the door and say 'Hi'! :hello2:

He sits at the back with PoP. They drink coffee and conspire.

It's actually my favourite block in Porty because of all the people on it - I used to know someone in the arty shop, Prem in the phone/internet place, the bad lads, those helpful folks in Woodwares, the mighty Janet Fenton, Mayor Javid Konscious and Pete in his antique shop.

My mate who was a chef lived down Regent Street years before I even came and settled in Porty, and of course I miss my old flat in Marlborough Street - where entertainment is only ever a minute away with walls falling down, holes appearing in the road, trucks smashing into cars and the weekly "Marlborough Street Standoff" with two cars going head-to-head, each convinced of their respective rights of passage.

Higgledy architecture, a patchwork of styles, and enough friendly folks to make a walk round the block last most of the day!

Hi Dada - and the family - including the furred friends! :hello2:

Thanks for the tip! Next time I'm along there, I'll go in and bother Porty and Pal of Porty.

I think we have a wonderful High Street all the way along, actually. Great shops and people.

I agree - it's a top bit of Edinburgh. My ancestral home and most favoured street is Leith Walk, but I'm very happy to be an ex-pat.

Furry friends indeed. The main bad boy Oscar is constantly scrapping with other cats and bringing back live/wounded/dying/dead birds and mice.

He is in his prime. I wonder what he would be like if he hadn't had his pom-poms done - even more laddish?

Well, I always enjoy a stroll up Leith Walk .... charity shops with books, and bits and bobs, ethnic shops, pubs ....... my kind of street. I was also thinking the other day what a superb street Great Junction Street was - all those wonderful local shops, and such interesting and useful ones. I keep meaning to go and take photos.

Yes, indeedy! I refrain from any other remarks or specious comparisons!

I did not know you had got more than one, because I've been off the forum for so long. How is the puss who used to hurl himself off the bannisters!

I just got another hour in the library because it's so quiet, and no-one wants the pc!!!!

Jay, I'm sorry to say that Chester died from chronic renal failure last April. I'm still pretty upset actually.

Oscar comes from the RSPCA in Balerno - he had been a stray and was hit by a car. They patched him up and we got him. He immediately decided he owned our entire street!

:( VERY sorry to hear about Chester. What a loss. I'm not surprised you are still upset. I still miss my wee lass, and she left me almost ten years ago now. I wish I could have another one, but it's not practical. I cat-sit for friends instead!!! :)

Oscar sounds quite a character!!!!! From my kitchen window, I regularly see at least two different cats going for walks with their (different) people and Alsations!!!!

Let me have a photo sometime - and of Chester - I have a collection of cat pics.
