Klaze.......
Klaze.......
..... just has to be the worst, most cringeworthy, name for a clothes shop that I have ever seen. The signs are going up and the High Street is dumbing down. Nae klass or what. All we need now is a Pound Shop, a Brighthouse and a Cash Generator and the story is complete.

I'm hardly an expert in women's fashion, but it looks to me like they just bought up Kirkwood's remaining stock. As names go, it's not quite as classy as 'Lauren Elizabeth' but I imagine it does what it says on the tin.
It's just the latest in a series of crap names for shops in Portobello, following on from 'Utopia Beach Life', 'Select' and 'Reds'.
Blame Scotmid. They should have left the post office where it was.

I hope it works for them, I really do. We had a wee laugh about it in the Barbers next door, before xmas. At least it got us talking. However, it will have to deliver the goods. Just like Reds will.
It all very well mocking those trying to start a business on porty high street (I don't think Tom intended to mock) however it is very difficult to make a decent living and the risks are big. Good luck to Klaze cos' it will be nae Klaze if it doesn't work out.

aw St Cuthberts. Taking me back to my childhood.
Ok does any one else remember their mum's "divi" number.
I can recall that no problem but my ATM PIN? nope. Pin for credit cards another one that eludes me. So if you're ever stuck behimd a flustered wifey at the checkout in Asda or Tesco be nice, it could be me!
Was the Klaze shop not a pet shop at one time. I remember a mynah bird that called out whenever anyone entered

You really got me thinking about the type of shops I would like to see in Porty, Dadaist. Klaze only sells stuff for women so I would like to see a decent quality clothing shop for blokes. I would also like a branch of Fopp in Portobello as it's my favourite shop to browse and buy in. Portobello used to have a good record shop and I still have all the albums I bought there. It would be a fantastic idea if a circus supplies shop opened up as I like the idea of buying a Nimmo tightrope. If I ever get one I will invite Dadaist along to give it a go and let him see me juggling my balls.
Like most inmates of Portobello I sincerely hope that any new shop does well and that the locals support it however, I still think that Klaze is a crap name.

Sad but true Seanie. I love my vinyl collection and I am in the process of transferring it all to my computer so that I can make hundreds more CDs. I got the coolest turntable with a usb connection from Santa and it is just the most fantastic toy. Once the project is complete I will still keep, and play, my records. If I ever win the lottery I promise to open a record shop in Portobello but, in the meantime, I must recommend Unknown Pleasures on Canongate. Well worth a visit for lovers of prog rock.

Tom, you should be grateful shops want to open on Portobello High Street and be happy about it, better a shop being taken than an empty shop.. and I defintely agree that a shop which isn't a charity shop should be encouraged to be.tom nimmo wrote:..... just has to be the worst, most cringeworthy, name for a clothes shop that I have ever seen.
