That's what i like to hear! Nice to..well, not quite "meet" you, more sort of "watch" you play air guitar etc on Friday, btw.
One of our neighbours had the fuel line cut on his very clapped out VW Jetta a few years back here... Pointless and expensive. Still, he forgot about that when they started on the BMW he replaced it with...

We're having a fun time at the moment. Nearly everyone in the street has had 'things' thrown at their living room windows. When you go out to investigate, the 'things' turn out to be brussel sprouts. The police think it's a laugh, so I doubt that we'll ever find out who the phantom brussels sprout flinger is.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

No worries. I was quite glad, I thought I was going to have to sing

This was a let off and I had a whole load of moves ready but ran out of time!

Given the financial constraints in place on the Fiscal service in Scotland these days Mimpty I very much doubt he'll go to court, despite having been caught in the act with another vehicle.
Think I'll raise the spectre of civil action - I say raise as it would no doubt be pointless pressing ahead, but it may give cause for concern.

Not a time for hilarity I know but you ought to be grateful the sprouts in question are not the sprouts I was served one Saturday in December.

There is always the possibility of the compensation board ( or something) if you are out of pocket, but that doesn't make the criminal himself pay, which is what you really want.

Insurance company made a laughable offer of £150, and if I want to contest then I need documented proof of similar cars in the area being sold for more. Not the most easiest thing to get hold of!
So, once I've paid off the remainder of my insurance for the year, I'll have £29.15 in my pocket - while two weeks ago today I had a fully functional vehicle!

Jamesie that is a real scunner. At the start of January, we had someone run into the back of our vehicle (which although old is a really reliable car) and were told that it was borderline to being written off as the cost of repair matched the market value of the car

I'm now dreading another claim.....

Another car theft to report I'm afraid - this time my mum. Her old VW Polo was nicked at some point between Tuesday and today from the car park on Mount Lodge Place at the corner of Windsor Place, just behind the old Post Office.
Found abandoned and written off on Brunstane Road this afternoon. The Police spoke at length at how they know who is carrying out the car thefts (this is the second theft from the same car park in a week) but are faced with the frustration of having the youth in question laugh in their faces as he knows he will be dealt with by the Childrens Panel rather than the criminal courts.

I spent 18 years living in Newcastle and your car, almost irresepective of which area you choose to live in, was done over at least once every six months.
I think living up here is such a difference. Indeed Mrs Pop and I often remark that one one of the nice things about Porty is that our car is done over much less!
PS Not much help for you I know Jamsie

Can you let your mum know if she didn't already, that this is a private car park - each space belongs to one of the flats and she has no right to park there. It is a constant problem with people who don't pay for the upkeep and maintenance, (especially posties)

, treating it as if it was a public car park.
Of course if she wants to come to some arrangement she could rent my space from me.
cheers

I could write a chapter on how much Porty car vandalism has cost me over the years. In summary, just under £ 4,000!!!!
If your car does get vandalised, please make sure you report it to the Police. A lot of people are taking minor damage for granted and this is skewing the actual level of car vandalism and theft that is going on.
Cheers

My mum knows fine well this is a private car park ali. And she knows fine well that each of the flats has its own space.
But she has every right to park there. My cousin lives in those flats and she doesn't have a car, but still pays for the upkeep and maintenance of the car park like yourself. And so my cousin is perfectly entitled to let my mum use her space.
All academic now, given the absence of said car. But maybe get all the facts next time before going off on one? I'm sure the next vehicle will be parked in far more salubrious surrounding anyway given the level of car crime in that car park of late

Well, that's lucky for your mum then. No-one was going off on one, though. I thought I was particularly polite.
I just wanted her to be aware of the situation. You will agree that there are many people around here who abuse the situation despite the large "Private car park" sign at the entrance and I know how keen you are on people observing the law. Good luck for your search for a car park in "more salubrious surroundings" ya cheeky monkey.

cheers

Here is an idea for you Ali - why not speak to your factor/neighbours and see if you can get permission to install the following?
http://www.barriersandbollards.com/Heav ... _Posts.htm
After all, the car park is always packed with vehicles and that way you could ensure everyone gets their space?

Ali, I didn't realise that you paid for the upkeep of that car park. As from monday its my new preferred parking designation.
On the subject of car vandalism and theft: a few months ago I left my car parked in London Road on a saturday afternoon. i inadvertently activated the opening mechanism for the boot. It was open for about 3 hours, loads of stuff in the back like whisky, tennis gear etc. It lay there for 3 hours and no one touched it.

Be my guest. I'll pop in to see you after work on Monday to discuss rental arrangements.

Ouch.
Didn't they have them at the City Chambers? I'm sure I remember taxi drivers complaining about damage.

I think the true numbers of car break ins/ attempted thefts may be low as many people feel it will affect their no claim bonus to report it.
There also used to be the hassle of proving your car was MOT'd and insured, think they do that online now

Jamsie - You are the one going off on one - not Ali! You are quite rightly pissed off under the circumstances and I can only think that it must be clouding your judgement. After all you could park it somewhere safer

Wasn't my intention to appear to be going off on one, it was just that being reminded of where the car could/couldn't be parked right after it had been stolen was rubbing salt into an open wound!

In my street this morning, a old worky style mallet hammer thing had been lifted from a skip and used to pan in the back windscreen of the nearest car. The mallet was left lying on the ground right next to the skip and the car.
Who to blame for this? Worky for leaving a weapon in the skip, skip owner for not securing it, skip company? Mindless yob for seeing it and smashing a car?
Regardless, not the best view to wake up to in the morning.
