What action do you judge as being the more socially unacceptable?
1) You watch as your dog defecates in a mixture of hard little poos with white bits and a trail of sticky, lumpy, french mustard colored, sweet smelling emulsion
or
2) Dropping one or more extinguished or lit cigarette's ends on the beach?
To me one is an act of vandalism and environmental irresponsibility and the other is the need for an animal to excrete. It really is black, brown and white.

I hate dog dirt. I see lots of owners from my kitchen window, (and even more, in the past, from my previous flat!
) who DO NOT pick up their dog dirt, on their way to the beach. God only knows what happens when they get to the beach (with no regard for the children who play there in the summer). Just today, I saw a woman desperately trying to get rid of dog dirt that she had picked up on her shoe.
As to the fags - I am VERY careful about mine when I am outside! Since the law about not smoking inside pubs, we have plenty of bins to put the fag ends in. No excuses for those who don't
