Not sure if you guys have covered this already.. but I've heard rumours that Tesco is part funding the new lights to replace the Kings Road roundabout. Now if this is true then one would think in return the council would then grant Tesco planning permission to build a Supermarket on the old Scottish Power site.
I don't know if people are seeing that Tesco roadworks sign on the roundabout as you leave PHS and putting two and two together and getting five?
Anyone else heard this?

Re: Tesco coming to Portobello?
I go with the getting 5 bit...there was also a sign attached to the railings saying wood waste aswell, following the same line of thinking that you are attaching to the tesco sign, that would mean that a company called wood waste are trying to get into the area.....I reakon its more likly that old signs wernt removed from the railings from the last work site they were on,,,,but I could be wrong ofcourse.....Robin! wrote:Not sure if you guys have covered this already.. but I've heard rumours that Tesco is part funding the new lights to replace the Kings Road roundabout. Prior to the public inquiry, when the original application to build a superstore was made, there was a suggestion that the developers would pay for any traffic measures deemed necessary. Suspect that's where part of the rumour has come from. Michael's post explains the rest.
I haven't seen the sign myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if it reads Transco

Well I reckon at somepoint in the not so distant future the Scottish Power site will either be Tesco or houses!
The sign deffo says Tesco too.

If you're interested in the council's plans for the Scottish Power site Robin take a look at the most recent postings and links to published plans on the NW Portobello Masterplan thread. Housing most certainly features.
And yes, the notice does say Tesco - I was being flippant
