Lots of interesting news and discussion as ever at tonight's Community Council meeting. Here a few snippets which may provide new topics of discussion on the forum. Please start a new thread for each one to avoid confusion:

Police report a large increase in the number of youth related incidents since the new school term, culiminating in serious disturbances 3 weekends ago. Additonal officers brought in to deal exclusively with youth issues, large quantities of alcohol confiscated, visits to parents, over 70 warning letters.

F.E. McDonalds site up for sale. Will we ever get a train station in Portobello, or will this site end up as blocks of flats?

New play park for Joppa Quarry. Something for teenagers as well?

Traders Association - could they be persuaded to emulate Forresters in putting up hanging baskets outside their shops to brighten up the High St?

Community Plan for Portobello - we keep talking about it, but how do we make it happen? One suggestion is to pick particular sites and hold community workshops, insert in Porty Reporter, online workshop?

Is the site needed for a train station? My guess is no - could have access from the other side of the bridge. Hmm, apart from HLR! Originally it was an island platform station - how did access work? I'm sure i've seen a pedestrian tunnel on an old map?! No footbridge, I think:

Wangi.

The access to the station is probably still there and only needs opening up.

If you go a little way down Christian Path, just before the bridge in Brighton Place, you will see a tunnel opening which is bricked up. That tunnel leads to a flight up stairs which goes up to the island platform.

My main memory of the station is a fad in my first year at PHS for wearing bangles made of pennies which had been placed on the line to be flattened into strips by the through express trains.

My mother in law remembers taking the pram (complete with Mr Epykat in situ) onto the train from Portobello Station to Clermiston to her sister's.

Soup making prowess is a major partner assessment criteria for that generation. I vividly recall my mum shaking her head in disapproval sying "she disnae make him soup'.

I must confess tho, there is not a day goes by when I don't have soup. In fact the last 3 days its been from the BBC. Cabbage and Lentil on Tues and Wed and Lentil and Carrot today. Michael Winner would have callled the Cabbage and Lentil historic. :D Mind you he is a vomit inducing, snob.

Watch out ecm likes to provoke such a reaction
I'd be more worried for Porty's staff who have to work in close proximity to someone who has so much cabbage in his diet.
