The Official 2010 World Cup Thread

Post by Bob Jefferson » 11 Jun 2010, 17:33

It's the weekend, the sun is shining and the 2010 World Cup is under way! The beer is in the fridge and there is a stockpile of crisps, tortillas, salsa and other savoury goodies.

Great start to the competition with that wonderful strike by the fabulously-named Siphiwe Tshabalala and a deserved draw for the host nation. I've cancelled my badminton for France v Uruguay tonight, hoping to pick up a few pointers before I show off my own silky skills at the World of Soccer tomorrow morning. It's a 9:30 am kick-off so best go easy on the Brahma. And then it's the big one - England v USA.

Play football, watch football, drink beer. What a weekend!

I have USA and Ghana in the work sweep. That's a fiver gone then.

Still need to put the habitual bet on Portugal or Spain to do something...

I have been feeling a bit left out. My son plays double bass, my daughter plays clarsach, viola and clarinet. But I think I have finally found my musical calling:

Guess what I've got!

I reckon the anti-jet ski campaign have just found another focus for complaint.

Better games today, and last night...time yet for it to be a decent tournament.

You are just copying Prince William, aren't you?

I'm going to take my lead from Prince Harry and predict a really dull game ending in 1-0 to Ingerland and a very drunken Homer.

What has happened to England ?? :?: Very disappointing. Have seen better games at school footie and I've watched loads of these. Were 6/1 favs . Could only hold a draw to Algeria who were 400/1. Have to say Algeria were every bit as good as England and at times better. Let's hope England get a grip for the final game in this round.
Can anyone see them going much further :?:
Am liking Mexico, Uruguay , Brazil and Argentina :D
whatever, am i bovvered

Well, I got the nil bit right. England were truly dreadful and were painful to watch. Three lions on my chest? Three pussycats more like! Rooney looked like he was carrying an injury and shouldn't have been on the pitch. And let's not give Algeria any credit. They were rubbish. We were just even more rubbish.

Capello out!

Well, 2 out of 3 wasn't bad. And I had only really given a goal to Ingerland out of a sense of loyalty to my spouse . Just call me Mystic Marya.

At least such a poor showing meant that Homer was on the receiving end of lots of Scottish sympathy in the pub and only got called an English %^&* once.

Don't be too down Bob. As I've said to Homer, take solace in the fact that many of the big teams are playing badly. England can still make it through the group stages. Keep blowing your vuvuzela!\:D/
