Ah well, when I try to think about alternatives I limit myself by trying to keep a grip on reality. That inevitably reduces the options. If reality isn't a limiting factor, then admittedly the options increase significantly.

Not from me. I'm not smart enough. And it would appear that you are not smart enough either.

Yeah, I'll accept that but no-one saw that decision coming, not even the staunchest PPAG supporter. Ladbrokes weren't even taking bets.

Where do you think the new school should be built, if not on Portobello Park?
Bob, of the three judges who decided on this case, thre of them ruled that it cant go on the park. You could have as many people as you like wanting it on the park, but it won't make it legal. It's not rocket science .

No, it's not news to me, I was just wondering if perhaps there were other people who got to make laws judging by what you had said. I'm presuming that judges are judges because they know the law and uphold it. Are you hoping that you might find some that agree with the law you want and not the law that's in place? Or are you just going to go for the 'change the law to suit you' tack?

So you knew all along it was Parliament!! (you truly are a master of disguise)

How did the wondering go, did you establish if there were other people who made up laws?
I only ask cos we could do with a couple to make up some laws about appropraition. Did you get their numbers?

Refurb on the other hand wouldn't take two skips of gold bullion seeing as how the foundations and structure are already there. Positive Porty!

Like I said, until the council qualify the budget, you're shooting in the dark. One skip of bullion, two skips.... even the council don't know. And even then we'd have the issue of how many cubic yards you'd like your skips to be. And then we'd need to make sure tufty approved the perspective of the drawing, so she could sleep soundly. We wouldn't want her steak bakes underdone, would we?

Really? According to some I'm selfish, ignorant and don't give a f**k about children.

From what I've been reading about lack of Plan B it would appear that some would rather have nothing at all than a refurbished tower block. Why would that be if not because they don't want their kids going to school in a tower block? If it's a choice between that and nothing, it's the only conclusion I can come to. And what exactly is this 'a school for the 21st Century'? A school is a building in which children are educated. It's been happening for years. What makes 21st Century children so different to every other generation who managed a good education in the Tower?

Well I would have thought for a start it would include 21st century technology, science and music labs.

Well, I've never thought or said that. You are a formidable verbal opponent. I just think your question doesn't do you justice. To be totally honest I'm not really sure what "schemey" means but I could take a good shot at understanding it, and what is snobbish about wanting the best education for your child?
No, not your best line of argument.

It wasn't a line of argument Rosa, it was just a thought. As I said, IF a refurb was the absolute only option and it was turned down, what other reason could there be? It would imply that you simply just don't want your kids in a Tower block. There's nothing snobbish about wanting the best education for your child but there is something snobbish about hypothetically not taking the only option you're offered because it's in a Tower block. POP dismissed the refurb idea immediately as the worst option. I disagree, the worst option would be that you get nothing (I say 'you' because I don't have school age children) and the kids are left with what they have. A good education undoubtedly but in a building which needs refurbished. Bob can be as smug and confident as he likes about winning an appeal, or changing the law, for finding out it's not common good land but the fact of the matter is, at the moment and probably for quite some considerable time, if ever, the school is NOT going on that land so a Plan B is essential.

Still don't think snobbishness has anything to do with it. Most people would, and do fight tooth and nail to get what they believe their children are entitled to and deserve. A refurbished PHS wouldn't fulfil either. Snobbishness just doesn't come into it.

If a refurbed tower can provide everything a new build can (including access to two GRASS pitches up the road in Porty Park) what objection could anyone actually have to it except that it is a tower?
Maybe we're now getting to the real issue-some parents just don't want their kids going to school in a tower block. I think this refurb could be fantastic and if we could engage the young people in some of the playground design, all the better. This idea (for me at least) is looking more and more "viable" and actually quite exciting.
