Presumably those that gave evidence against him have committed perjury?
I will never believe that all of these witnesses unanimously agreed to perjure themselves. More likely that the jury got it wrong IMO

Michty me. Never expected that one. It's great news for Sheridan's finances though - the NoW could take a hit like that but it would have ruined him.

I guess I must be a liar then.

There's already talk of a stage show, certainly a book, talks shows, maybe a film? I think he could have a very lucrative career in panto for years to come. Just goes to prove, once you are famous there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Do you think he will give half the £200k to the SSP then?

What about that victory speech?

Gretna beating Real Madrid in the Bernebau on penalties. Inspired or what? He must certainly be in a mood to party tonight.

Or is it a quiet night in with a game of Scrabble?

He probably had a part last night, got fairly blootered on the champers, then had mutliple sex with anything that moved of its own volition, while filming it, with F*** the NoTW!!! plastered on his hairy bare buttocks.

No, no ... too much information. My eyes! My eyes! Get the hydrochloric acid on my eyes!!! 8)

So the jury swings in favour of Tommy  . Most of that money will be taken up paying off the visa for Gail's wardrobe I would imagine. Still, we've got "Gail's Diaries" to look forward to in the Record next week. Can't wait!! :D :D

Did you attend the meeting or did you hear through the grapevine?
I looked through the thread but wasn't entirely sure.
I noticed that you said you weren't involved with them anymore(SSP), was it because of this or something completely different.

I know this is personal so you can either post here, pm or ignore if you choose and I won't be offended.

The May Day event, also on the SSP channel, is a hoot. The polis want to move the SSP stall from the officially-designated picnic area to another part of Glasgow Green but Rosie Kane is 'prepared to go to the wire on this'.

With such passion, little wonder they end up in the 'News of the Screws'.

It's the passion that worries me slightly about the SSP (no pun intended  ). They're all so overly passionate about everything that it sort of verges on the mad.......worrying. Reminds me of another political figure in history who was a bit passionate about his race and his country.

The SSP split is now going at full pelt.

Tommy Sheridan is having a meeting to start his new party (probably) although it hasn't been formally announced (the new party, that is, the meeting is on the 3rd of September)

The SWP and CWI factions (platforms/tendencies) from within the SSP have announced today that they are leaving - they were the main pro-Tommy groupings during the whole debacle.

I was going to go to the party conference in October, mainly because I've never seen a fight before, but it now looks like it'll just be anti-Tommyites.

So much fuss, and all because of just one penis.

The new party could take the form of a much broader alliance like George "carnal" Galloway's Respect.

Who knows though - things could swing in any direction.

The SSP debacle reaches new heights (or is that lows?) of political stupidity. Split after split after split ... it's taking on the mantle of the People's Front of Judea in The Life of Brian ...

BRIAN:
Are you the Judean People's Front?
REG:
F*** off!
BRIAN:
What?
REG:
Judean People's Front?? We're the People's Front of Judea! Judean People's Front. Cawk.
FRANCIS:
W***ers.
BRIAN:
Can I... join your group?
REG:
No. P**s off.
BRIAN:
I didn't want to sell this stuff. It's only a job. I hate the Romans as much as anybody.
PEOPLE'S FRONT OF JUDEA:
Shhhh. Shhhh. Shhh. Shh. Shhhh.
REG:
Schtum.
JUDITH:
Are you sure?
BRIAN:
Oh, dead sure. I hate the Romans already.
REG:
Listen. If you really wanted to join the P.F.J., you'd have to really hate the Romans.
BRIAN:
I do!
REG:
Oh, yeah? How much?
BRIAN:
A lot!
REG:
Right. You're in. Listen. The only people we hate more than the Romans are the f***ing Judean People's Front.
P.F.J.:
Yeah...
JUDITH:
Splitters.
P.F.J.:
Splitters...
FRANCIS:
And the Judean Popular People's Front.
P.F.J.:
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Splitters. Splitters...
LORETTA:
And the People's Front of Judea.
P.F.J.:
Yeah. Splitters. Splitters...
REG:
What?
LORETTA:
The People's Front of Judea. Splitters.
REG:
We're the People's Front of Judea!
LORETTA:
Oh. I thought we were the Popular Front.
REG:
People's Front! C-huh.
FRANCIS:
Whatever happened to the Popular Front, Reg?
REG:
He's over there.
P.F.J.:
Splitter!

Substitute the PFJ with the SSP and the rest with other factions and there you go ... Monty Python's well-observed take on party politics!

Thats a stunningly astute and remarkably insightful piece of political observation.

Imagine making the connection between the Life Of Brian "Judean People's Front" and the SSP.

Yes.

Let's face it though - Tommy's got the balls to thrust out on his own like this. Whilst things may be a bit hairy at the start, I suspect they will smooth over in time and people with different orientations will get back into bed with one another - although maybe not without some friction first.

It's a real shame for them. I think they'd started picking up a large number of disaffected Labour votes. With Labour's current foreign policy and Proportional Representation, the sky was the limit. I think it'll take a big effort - but as far as I can see Tommy's the big attraction of any future party.
