I'm in the - as yet - uninsulated loft

. It's a bit baltic and a wee bit scary

. I might not be on long!
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Our windows are rattling though

The thudding of the wind through my abode's extractors and vents is something else!! Cuddled up with Plug. Our first NY along together ever

Mr E and I will be cuddling up shortly. Not because he will particularly want to, more because I will be suffering from hypothermia

. This is our first NY alone together for many years too. Epykitten the Horrible has legged it to Newcastle with his pals for two days in the wake of last year when he had mumps and a horrible time

.

Is anyone heading down to The Place (was The Pier, Utopia etc..) later? It looks cosy and friendly in there tonight

Not another demise?! Didn't know about that. It had a good turn out but we trundled straight past and down to the bonfires

The rain stopped at ten to twelve, and by five to the bonfires were lit and fireworks lined up! There's no stopping the Bellfield St crowd.. We had about an hour of absolutely baltic but very happy company and fireworks, and got home before the rain started again
Chocs did go down well - they helped keep out the cold! Have loads left; I'd made several hours worth of eating supplies but only used an hours worth
Hope you and Bearcub are all toasty warm and well supplied with drinkies!

Hope you had a good time too! Tea and a hot water bottle will be welcome soon.
I got the easy bit tonight; I just had to sit and hold the bag of mead and choc - Granty had to do all the pushing and steering

She'll forgive me soon..

Looks like they've given it a reprieve for a while. Would be a shame to see it close down again, but it doesn't look good when they're only open part of the week...

Think that place has a jinx on it?
Was trying to remember all the names it's had since we lived here.
In no particular order-
The Flying Dutchman, Beachcombers, Lobster Pot , The Pier, Utopia ( by the beach), Ruthvens, The Place think there may be more but cant recall just now.

From what I've heard today, it's not a jinx that's a problem, just Punch Taverns' ways. It's a shame, as I think it could be a success with the right owners and the right backing.

Yeah, it's amazing the lengths I have to go to, to get my greedy chops on those choccies. Worth it though. The hogmanay ones were pure rocket fuel.

In the fridge there's a bag of those chocs with your name on it, just in case you're passing the flat sometime next week..

We've got an old pal of Homer's arriving tomorrow along with his wife and three girls aged between 10 and 15. As the girls are still a bit young for going up town, we're going to set off a few fireworks at the house for the the bells and then take a wander down the prom ( hoping to gate crash someone's bonfire party on the beach!).

From Terry's Nov gig guide
Hogmanay Party
This is usually a very well attended evening
It is a ticket only event and they are now on sale at the bar
Tickets are limited so suggest you put your name down
The format will be a relaxed homely party atmosphere with Live Music and great sounds from DJ Johny Glen
The front gates of the house will be closed at 9pm
So see in the Bells with your friends and family in a safe organised atmosphere

My contribution will be to ensure that the Town Hall bell brings in the New Year in Portobello. That aside, I expect to be tucked up in bed well before midnight, assuming I can sleep through the fireworks.

Lovely atmosphere on the Prom
Whole families out in spite of the cold, everyone happy and friendly
Bumped into Rapunzell ( twice) and Granty
Lots of bonfires, fireworks, sky lanterns ( spooky to watch them floating in the sky ), a fiddler or two
Happy New Year
