I've only been once and the food was tasty but it seemed to me the prices were similar to Roti, which I avoid cos of the cost.

If you are wanting an absolutely memorable meal go to Martin Wishart for the Tasting Menu with matching wines - not much change out of £200 but sooooo worth it.

Grunk- you are spot on. We went to the Outsider tonight having been there more than 20 times. Table not ready so we try to sit at the only "waiting table" we are verbally assaulted by little beardie wank. A totally unreasonable response to the question "would it be ok if we sit here til our table is ready".

We subsequently discovered it was the owner. The girls he was "with" told us they had been invited so he could show off and they were totally sick of it and him. Food and drink was really good tho.

Wow, the owner is mr popular. Tell me though Porty, did you tell him you thought of him as a 'beardie wank' to his face when you were there?

No i didn't that was a quote from of the two young ladies he was sitting with. he was apparently in a foul mood as he wasn't getting anywhere. Deeply unpleasant fellow. i'm glad I haven't seen him previously. Kind of puts me off going. However, the pear and liquorice crumble was gorgeous.

There are several customer reviews of The Outsider that mention the rudeness of the owner. Of course, there are always two sides to a story so perhaps, for example, the group that were asked to leave for 'enjoying themselves' were being a bit loud? Nevertheless, there does seem to be a bit of a recurring theme.

It's difficult to understand this attitude. There are literally hundreds of restaurants in Edinburgh to choose from and diners are a notoriously fickle lot. If I were the owner, I would be going out of my way to make every customer feel welcome and valued. Not everyone can turn out award-winning food but good manners cost nothing.

Thing is I'm not even sure he has a beard!

The place was heaving last night, probably the busiest I have ever seen it. I called 3 weeks ago to make the reservation and 9:15 was the only time they could give us a table. Normally it is clearing out at the 9 15 sitting but it was going like a fair. Food wasn't to its usual high standard and they had sold all the salmon skewers, which was a pity. I really like the room but only once have I been able to secure the booth looking out on the castle. Although I have had the "mirror " table a couple of times and that is quite cute. As Bob says the staff are very good and efficient.

I saw an advert in today's SOS that says its moved but it didn't give an address???

I ate at Cafe Andaluz in George Street on Friday night which was also extremely busy. I don't think I will go back again as I thought it was distinctly average. Not a patch on the reall thing at more than twice the price.

there is a Calistoga St Leonard's street and also one in Rose Street Lane.

Not been but a friend at work raves about it and there was a review recently of the RSL one in one of the sundays and it got thumbs up.
