Phone masts in Porty

Post by cathie » 10 Sep 2003, 22:05

A recent proposal that a phone mast might be sited in Bellfield Church came to nothing because nobody wanted it there. I was glad to read about MAP (Mast Awareness Portobello) in the Porty Reporter. It's right that we should have more info. Does everyone sending their kids to the High School (or St John's) even know there's a mast on top?

There is serious concern that there might be health risks for people who are exposed to irradiation from phone masts for long periods.. and children are likely to be particularly vulnerable. Surely a school roof is the last place a mast should be? What do other folk think?

I think a School is the 'last' place a phone mast should be sited, along with any other public building including Hospitals, Nursing Homes etc.

Who in their right mind would - knowing the (proven health ramifications)
could even possibly consider it!!!

What I would like to know is - what is the Policy for the siting of these phone masts?

What revenue does this rake in and for who?

Anyone in portyland who can answer this??
