Marrying for Money

Is deciding to marry or pursuing someone for marriage, principally because they are wealthy or prosperous, a reasonable, moral and justifiable strategy? Is it as valid a basis as some of the other reasons for marriage, like love for example?

Not following up on the prostitution debacle by any chance Porty?

My immediate reaction was, "Of course it's wrong", but then I wondered, "How about arranged (not 'forced' ) marriages?". They have a high success rate and are based, amongst other things, on the man's ability to provide financially. So many partners in such marriages will tell you that love is something that can grow. There is, after all, a much higher rate of divorce amongst couples that marry solely for 'love'.
Then there is what the man gets out of the deal (I'm assuming that in most cases it is the man that has the wealth....). Donald Trump, for example, might be a man that is married for his money but I'm sure he is very happy with each trophy wife that he sports on his arm.
Can't say I've ever felt attracted to a man because of his wealth (fortunately for Homer

), but money can give a man power and that is often an aphrodisiac. Wealth also brings a security that appeals to the woman's search for a mate that will provide for her children so her motives may be justified in that sense.
I have to say it doesn't take much to win me over - just that old clichÃƒÂ© a GSOH - but to the latest Mrs Trump I say "Congratulations!" and to every Thai bride escaping from poverty, I wish the best of luck....

I agree. (I perhaps should have include those, particularly elderly people who get married for tax or benefits reasons.)

Marriage is a partnership and who is to say that being financially suited to each other is not a sound basis?

Vowing to remain in a loving relationship with one person for the rest of your life is a total gamble. If money is your thing and it makes you happy, then it seems as valid a reason as any, and maybe the odds are better

He sure has. I went to see him at the Usher Hall, think it was 2003 and he looked incredible for his age. I'm sure he had drink or drug issues when he was younger.

His ultimate achievement must have been when Springers presented his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.
