Portobello kids raise money for tsunami victims

On Saturday 5th February over 200 children and parents will fill the St.Philips Church Hall, Brunstane Road North, Joppa for a charity Mr. Boom Concert. Fun and songs with a serious message – the children of Portobello want to show solidarity with the children who lost everything in the tsunami.

The initiative came from Katriona Tweedie (5). She wanted to bake some cakes but her mother, Alison Holligan, thought that they could do a bit more. The family contacted childrens entertainer Mr Boom, aka Andy Munro, who was delighted to contribute to the cause. Tickets have been on sale at the primary schools in the Portobello area and from MICA Hardware on Portobello High Street.

The kids will have a home baking stall and goodie bags donated by ASDA, and Borders Fresh Farm Produce will be on sale. There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by Scotmid Portobello and Early Learning Centre Fort Kinnaird.

The organisers hope to raise £1,000. All proceeds to the Disaster Emergencies Committee (DEC).
