Did anyone get any pictures - it made quite a good picture - blue sky, bluer sea, red letters!
Who is Ann Gilchrist and did she say 'Yes'!

Did anyone else see the plane flying over Portobello yesterday, trailing the message in large red letters 'Ann Gilchrist I love you Will you marry me?'
It flew around for about half an hour. I don't know if Ann Gilchrist finally gave him his anwser or he ran out of fuel! Does anyone know Ann Gilchrist? I wonder what answer she gave! Not that I'm nosy or anything!

In my opinion, Ann should be running for the hills so as to escape from a life punctutated regularly by other "whacky" stunts.
What's romantic about public humiliation and what's funny about piloting that noise polluting machine up and down the coast spoiling peoples' sunday afternoon? - and it was a beautiful afternoon.
Why couldn't he just pay her a visit and do it face to face?
What kind of a rampant ego maniac is this guy???
What does he think yesterday's stunt says about him to other people??
Is he mad?????

BTW a quick poll around the office and the women think it was romantic and the men think he is a plonker!!!!!!

I LOVE your avatar - DO tell - is it a real bit of film or has it been 'helped' to look as though one penguin is knocking the other one down! Hilarious, either way!
As to 'romantic' or 'stupid', I'm not sure how I would take it. I would be very embarrassed at the time, but would not want to hurt someone's feelings by saying so, after they had gone to so much trouble. My mother's reaction was the same as yours, Ali! 'Damn silly. Someone thinks a lot of himself'!
I do have to say that I find a wee plane puttering around for a bit, less aurally (is that the right word?) polluting than the jetskis we get in the summer.

Dunno - I pinched from someone who was using it on another forum I frequent. I suspect that it probably has been doctored in some way. Maybe one of our more technically minded forum members could tell us?Jay wrote: Ali

Ali,
We got sent something very similar at Christmas time, called Penguin on ecstasy. Slightly longer than yours. Suspect it's doctored but then again, penguins are pretty barmy.

Back to Ann Gilchrist.
I think she said yes as we saw a group of people looking very celebratory, drinking champagne about half way along the prom just after the 'plane set off back into the wide blue yonder. He was obviously confident enough about her answer to bring a group of friends and the bubbly with him.
It must have done the trick for her so good luck to them I say.

I hope she said yes - what a lovely thing for him to do.

I agree entirely. Clearly, this form of proposal is unsustainable. In future, we should insist that all romantic gestures are carbon neutral.ali wrote:What's romantic about public humiliation and what's funny about piloting that noise polluting machine up and down the coast spoiling peoples' sunday afternoon? - and it was a beautiful afternoon.
welcome to a CarbonNeutral world
I agree ali... I think the forum should vote for S.A.M.'s to be installed on the prom to put a stop to all this romantic nonsence!!!ali wrote:

Is Man The Dream Of The Dolphin??
Well, I must admit, I did have the thought on Monday night - brought on by DC saying everyone had been ready with bubbly - that it might have been a film or tv shoot! So, it was real - and she said 'Yes'. Thanks for the info. Epykat.
