George Haggarty - pottery shards

Post by angigael » 12 Mar 2005, 20:14

Anyone know how I get in touch with George Haggarty? I read his article in The Reporter on "Archaeological Investigations at Local Site". I have some bags of pottery shards collected from the Figgate Burn.

Thanks in advance.

Angi,

Perhaps if you e-mail the Reporter using the link on the Online page they could put you in touch with him?

When did you collect these pieces and from what part of the burn?

Over the space of year from July 2001 from the beach part. I liked the patterns and love beachcombing. Found a clay pipe minus most of the stem.

I've picked up loads of lovely pieces of glass from the beach along at Fisherrow.

Presumably some of it is from the debris of the former bottle works at Porty. The pieces are generally small, smoothed by the washing of the sand and the colours are lovely; pale blues and greens and occasionally that deep, medicine bottle blue.

I've noticed other people have used these glass pieces in their gardens to make a wee feature so I'm not the only one wandering up and down the sand looking like I've lost something.
