Sudoku - are you addicted yet?

Post by Bob Jefferson » 10 May 2005, 17:03

It's the craze that is sweeping the nation. All you have to do is place a number from 1 - 9 in each empty cell so that each row, each column and each 3 x 3 block contains all the numbers from 1 - 9.

Try it, but be warned - it is highly addictive. If you enjoy this puzzle then look out for Sudoku bi-monthly magazine. It's exclusive to WH Smith, issue 1 out now at £2:75.

I do not buy a paper every day but when I do I always attempt the Sudoku. The Times rates them from mild through fiendish. I have not managed to correctly complete a fiendish one yet but have successfully managed all the ones rated difficult or below.

Good fun. 8)

Sudoku magazine rates theirs easy, medium and hard. I didn't find the medium ones much more difficult, but the ones rated 'hard' seem to require a different strategy altogether. I have just completed my first sudoku puzzle in this category and it has taken me over an hour but I really enjoyed working it out and it's a real buzz when you put the final number in.

I'm guessing it was a woman that came up with that rating system.

How did you guess? Her name is Su Suduko a Japanese mathematician who invented the puzzle as something to do in her break between the ironing and the washing up. 8)

.....or 9 different vegetables if you prefer. In fact 9 symbols of any description. It's a puzzle of logic and deduction not numeracy skills. 8)

Hmmmm the number 9 seems to feature a lot, surprising given that its nothing to do with numbers.

Anyway, you can't get 9 different fruit. Its like comparing apples with oranges or nectarine.
