Trampolines

Post by Robin! » 30 May 2005, 17:57

Hey there, summer is almost here and I'm looking to purchase a trampoline for my self and my little sister (yes I'm a big kid really).

So does anyone here have one if so where did you buy it from and how much was it... oh and how much fun are they! :D

I'm looking at getting a 13' one, as my garden is only about 16-17' wide. lol.

They do look a lot of fun, don't they Robin!
We don't have one, but a friend does and my nine year old son has enjoyed playing on it. I'm hopelesss at estimating measurements but it's a decent size. I'll ask her about it the next time I see her and let you know what her responses are.

My kids love their trampoline and it's definitely been well used

Not sure what size it is ...maybe about 8-10ft

We bought ours in Makro a couple of years ago for around £100 and I think they still have them from time to time at around that price

Agros seem to have a massive selection

My neighbour bought hers on the net and is very happy with it. Watch the prices tho' they tend to go up and down a lot! 8)

Cheers for the input folks.

I managed to get a hold of a makro catalog which has a 13' trampoline with an all weather cover for £100! decent! Just need to find someone with a makro card.

We bought a trampoline for our kids from a company called Supertramp (Google)

They do proper trampolines, not like the kind you get in in Agros (Wherever that is   ).

It was the best value for money out of any "Toy" that we ever purchased. it lay outside in all weathers for more than 10 years and was the focal "play" point for many of the kids in the street. You are making a good decision.

It worries me that in spite of my youth  I understood that reference of PoP's...but I love Supertramp.

Good luck getting one, Robin!, at a reasonable price. Then you could invite us all round for a shot...

My sister got one for her kids from Toys r us (she went to B&Q but the guy told her Toys r us was cheaper) - there are nice honest shop assistants out there!! :D

It was £120 including the netting round the sides - which makes it look pretty horrendous but stops the kids falling off. It is 12ft and takes up a lot of garden!

We helped build it last weekend - so had a shot - its fab!

My daughter broke her ankle on Wednesday (her 11th birthday) on her trampoline and has had to have an op to pin it back together. We've spent most of the last 48 hours at the Sick Kids. The hospital was groaning with kids with trampoline fractures and other injuries.
Word of warning..never let your kid bounce at the same time as their overweight cousin

Poor wee soul. She must have been/be in so much pain.
Hope she mends quickly.

There's been so much in the press recently about the dangers of trampolines and the surge in A and E visits as a result of their current popularity.

Hope your daughter feels better soon Foxy...

Were we all indestructable? considering all the safety features that were not in place when I was a young (the Swing park in front of Towerbank school's solid tarmac surfaces, the Trampoline Centre where people squeezed between the springs to go underneath the trampolines, and also go onto one 3 at a time, playing inside the Open Air pool even though it was shut down, because someone had left one window unboarded, cycling along the beach wall in BMX bikes) no one I knew got hurt as a kid.

and yet...... our friends over here got their son a trampoline with safety side net, safety padded posts, and padded spring cover mats. and the kid still fell getting off it injuring himself by falling down 4 safety steps onto grass.

My niece was today doing handstands on her trampoline :?

Ended up breaking her arm near her elbow, going back in tomorrow to get it plastered under anasthetic.

<grin>

Biggest Bellybaby is doing fine, thanks for asking. He had a white, old-fashioned stuckie (is that how that's spelled? We call it a plaster where I come from...) first, then a blue one, then a green one, and now a red one. He had the wire taken out last week and he should get rid of the cast next week, at last. He's pretty much back to normal now...but I hope we don't have to go through that ever again. Seeing one's baby lying on the prom moaning in agony with an s-shaped bend in his arm is not a good experience...nor are the Brighton Place cobbles or the Duddingston speed bumps... :( He had a fight with my brother about wearing a helmet - thank God my brother and I had had a conversation the night before where I mentioned F was always suposed to wear one. It's not worth thinking about what would have happened if he hadn't been wearing one. Hopefully F himself will remember the lesson he learned there.

Miss Bellybabe

Well the plaster is off the wee skinny leg, but still on crutches for the time being...so I'm back to fetching, carrying and taxi-ing until further notice

Glad to hear about the plaster Foxy. You have many years of fetching etc ahead.

(Although it would be rude to say that if we were in the Manchester area)

My niece is still in stookie, she has tastefully decorated it in pink and purple love hearts, I was quite disappointed as was looking forward to putting my scrawl over it, like happened in my day. Thanks for asking. :D

Well, you can add my son to the growing list of POL children with a stookie. Not a trampoline or a cycling injury , but a piggyback game with another kid gone wrong. He's torn all the ligaments in his ankle apparently and is in plaster from knee to toe. He is not at all pleased at having to use crutches - maybe it's something to do with my Long John Silver impersonations :pirate: and promises to buy him a parrot.
He'd much prefer that I gave him lots of sympathy (and Calpol) and that I'd peel him some grapes.

Oh no! Poor boy. I want to know all about it as F's accident has turned me into someone who cares about other children when they have accidents  ...

But I'd also like to know how you all are just because.

Oh Marya what a shame :( Hope he's not in too much pain.

I'm sure you're already discovering all the things you won't be able to do for the next few weeks and the impact being on cutches will have on your normal routines. Get well soon Marya-Homer-et :walk:
