Childhood beliefs
Childhood beliefs
OK, I was a sucker for the Redy Brek glow. When your mum and big sis both say it enough times, it makes an impression.
Anyway there is now a website of all our sucker stories :
http://iusedtobelieve.com/
Including my absolute favourite :
I was 10 before I found out that ice cream vans played music to get you to come out and buy one: my mum and dad told me they only played the music when they had run out!

Fantastic site!
I had lots of very dodgy beliefs as a kid - something to do with having evil older brothers. For example, everyone had some idea that if you swallowed chewing gum you died, but apparently other kids thought it was to do with gumming up your insides. My brothers told me that if you swallow chewing gum they hang you. Every time I accidentally swallowed some I waited in abject terror to be arrested, sentenced to death and hanged.
And that was only one of many.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

I believed if you swallowed chewing gum it would stick to your ribs and you would dieBellybabe wrote:Fantastic site!

Great site, some good stories.
I didn't taste Spaghetti until I was 19, as my mum told me it was worms. it was much same with chinese. I remember going out in a foursome to what is now Chi Wai's. I had Fish and Chips from St Andrews and then joined the others. My mum had told me that Chinese served Dog and Cat meat.

My sister told me that if you went out the side doors of the George picture house you ended up in another town and would never get home. That was okay with me as I intended NEVER to go out of any other door bar the front one and then I'd be okay. Which was fine until one busy Saturday when they opened the side doors to ease the congestion........took me years to recover
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
I'm amazed that you appear to be so normal Epykat...or are appearances deceptiveEpykat wrote:My sister told me that if you went out the side doors of the George picture house you ended up in another town and would never get home.
