Scots Dictionary

Post by ras » 15 Aug 2005, 00:00

Scotland on Sunday had a wee gem of a Scots Dictionary.
Have made it to 'G', and my favourite so far is 'bastartin'. There is phrase to show where you may use it:

'watch whit yir daein wi that bastartin hammer!'

My daughter is doing Scots dialect at school and needs to know what "bubbly Jock" is. Is it a crybaby or something to eat (or am I getting confused with bubble and squeak)...anybody?

Have just consulted the revered edition:

Bubbly jock: a bubbly jock is a male turkey. It is probably so called because of the noise it makes.

Learn something new everyday :D
