No, I have enough obsessions without getting involved in that, but I do look periodically to see if there is anything with a Portobello theme. I'm not sure how rare this postcard is but I'll make some enquiries.

It seems to be fairly rare in that our local historian, Archie Foley, has not seen it before, although they were probably mass-produced for any number of seaside resorts. An example complete with the insert would certainly be worth having.

The History Society is aware of these items that crop up on eBay and is using it to add to its growing collection. They recently purchased the 19th century legal letter you may have seen.

All we need now is a museum in which to publicly display the collection!

Unfortunately I'm a mega Ebay addict and as I collect bee related items I could be tempted by that card. If I thought one in better condition might come up then I'd wait, but I've never seen one before either.

Of course, now that you have forced me to look at eBay I have found lots of interesting things that I would like to buy, including this vinyl EP from the Wanglers. It is of interest to me as the only record I ever played on. I am credited as the Blob and I played, erm, toy ray gun on a track entitled "Lost in Space".

The recording was made at Barclay Towers, in reality a kitchen in a top floor tenemental flat in Bruntsfield. The 8 track recording equipment was in the domed part of the building. You had to crawl into it, like a spaceship capsule. Early Rezillos recordings were made here and Mike Scott's first band, Another Pretty Face, recorded their debut single here.

Yup!! I have also shopped on e-bay. Have bought some nice plants and some castagna " native american" figures which I collect.

Have looked up the portobello/ joppa postcards a few times and been tempted but not bought any yet.

Has there ever been, or is there a Portobello folk museum or the like?

Not for sale through e-bay, but this site has a couple of Portobello postcards for sale.

This one shows the buildings which used to stand where the proposed new houses might be built.

Another place that you could get old " Portobello" or " Joppa" postcards is at the Antique and Collectors fair which is on at Ingleston next Saturday and Sunday.

Another place is at the Antiques centre near Blair Drummond. A good excuse for a day out!!!

Do you go to the antique fairs there Arachnid ? I always go so now I might have to be on my guard for being spladooshed there if you do

I also go to the antique centre near Blair Drummond (it's actually in Doune) and yes it is a great day out

My husband and I went to one of the Ingleston Fairs at the beginning of the year and really enjoyed it, intended to go for just a couple of hours and ended up spending half the day there!!!

We were hoping to go this Sunday but unfortunately our son is working and we have to " dogsit"!!!!

( she's getting old and can't be left on her own too long). So I won't be able to " spladoosh" you this time!!!

But there will be other times!!!

Yup, it would be good if I could get to that one, I'll let you know nearer the time!!

But if I can't get to that one, will definately be in the New Year!!!
