Guitar Lessons

Post by Lizzie » 26 Jan 2004, 16:29

Does anyone know of someone locally Portobello/Musselburgh who gives guitar lessons for beginners, either on a one to one basis or a class.
Any information would be appreciated - thank you.
How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you are?

Lizzie

I spoke to Maggie LeMay at the Community Centre about this. She told me there is someone at Evergreen who gives lessons, so maybe you could try there?

I took lessons in the mid-90's at Porty High as an evening class. A great guy called Phil was running the class, an excellent guitar player and good teacher too. Worth a try?

Oh fabby! A lonely hearts type thread  This is what we need - get all the single Porty dwellers together and reintroduce new blood to the gene pool (it can get a bit incestuous down here after a while - I'm related in some way to about every third person I meet!!! )

I'm resurrecting this thread because my son is keen to take guitar lessons. How did you get on Lizzie? We would prefer group lessons, as I imagine they are likely to be cheaper, but would consider one-to-one if it was affordable.

Try contacting nicolamilligan member number 140, she lives in Brunstane Road North and gives lessons, though I think only on a one to one basis. Also contact Evergreen there is someone connected there who I think runs a guitar class.

I'm re-resurrecting this thread as my son is looking for a guitar tutor again, his last one having 'disappeared'. I tried Nicola but haven't had a response from the email address she has registered. Nicola, if you are reading this?

Or if anyone knows of someone else locally offering private or group tuition, please let me know.

Bob, as a punk rocker, should you really be advising your son to have guitar lessons? Do you think... (hushed voice) PAUL RESEARCH ever had a guitar lesson?

However, if this is the path you insist your son treads, then try my brother-in-law Keith McDougall, who teaches music at Orcadia and guitar lessons in his spare time. I will pm you his number.

If that fails, there is a really good guy called Richard at Musselburgh, Lisa has been going to him for years. PM me if you want his number.

His name is Richard Knowles, he taught at PHS for a while, charges 11 notes for half an hour and is on 0131 653 3731. He lives on this side of "Mussie" so its quite convenient.
