Techie question about syndication

Post by Dakota » 31 Aug 2005, 18:00

<please feel free to let your eyes glaze over>

Have the site admin ever considered an RSS feed? It would alert regular forum readers, if they seldom visit the front page, to be quickly alerted to changes/updates to the main site.

There are a number of free/easy to use RSS generators (such as Feedspring, which I use). And RSS is getting easier to use... Google Desktop Search version 2 uses it seamlessly, automatically subscribing to feeds from websites you visit regularly...

Just a thought.

<normal service wil now be resumed>

Haven't a clue what you're on about, but if it's free and I'm getting it, feel free :D

(maybe I should rephrase that......??)
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

You "bookmark" a "feed" from the website. When the website is updated, the bookmark politely taps you on the shoulder and tells you about it. Saves you constantly checking the front page to see what has changed.

There are loads of RSS readers around. The one I use is Thunderbird, which I also use for reading my email.

Google Desktop Version 2 http://desktop.google.com/index.html is mainly for searching your own computer, but also includes a great RSS reader.
I don't believe in Beatles.

Not exactly what you asked for... but... The forum now has a RSS feed.

[ All the folk using Firefox will see the subscribe icon at the bottom of their browser window. ]
