Recycling

Hello
Does anyone know where I should contact to see whether we can get a blue recycling box or if it is possible to recycle in our street. Neighbouring streets have them but nobody has offered them to us yet. We currently have to take all recycling to tesco.

Council on 529 3030 or email wae@edinburgh.gov.uk. To avoid Tesco you can take packaging [drinks cartons, tins, envelopes, cardborard, plastic bottles], glass, paper and, I think, clothes to the Indoor Bowling carpartk down Westbank Street - or even to the fabby new site at Seafield!!

Thanks for that, I have sent them an email. I didnt realise there was recycling at the bowls centre, or at seafield! We will need to check that out.

We've had fights regularly with the council for years about the stuff everyone else gets. First we had the gumption to want a wheelie bin instead of rats. Then we dared to want a brown garden recycling bin. Apparently we can't have one because our street is too narrow for an ordinary bin wagon and we have to wait until they can buiy a new small one. We wanted a blue paper recycling bag and were told we couldn't possibly have one, although our street in the end did get a communal paper recycling bin. And last but not least, a recycling box...we haven't even bothered to attempt it this time. We live on the wrong side of Porty, I think...

I'd like to know if they're allowed to provide a lesser service for us than other Porty streets and yet charge the same amount of council tax.

Hi Bellybabe, I have had my share of conflict with the council too so watch this space!! I will let you know. So far no word back. We have to drive along a road with a surface like something out of a war zone to get to our house, and the council has refused us a reduction in council tax for having to put up with that!! While we are on the subject of council bashing, something I would like to know, is why have they put speedbumps in about 10 metres from the prom on roads leading to it?! Surely that is a waste of council funds, since I would be amazed if anyone would drive at over 20 mph on approach to the bollards!!!

I live in hope of recycling heaven!

Wouldn't bother with the email - much better to get on the phone and talk to someone about something like this.

I phoned them about our brown bins - same story as BB - lane at back too small for the waggon, but it's not actually behind us anyway (Joppa Rd is) but the garden is way too small anyway for the size of bin so I was glad to get rid. Also asked about where to place the red and blue bins... and then ignored what they said

We didn't get a brown bin because they don't believe you can live on the High Street and have a garden! We did have a blue newspaper bag til they left the empties in the street and a dog peed on them and we have the delightful communal wheelie which people from as far away as Fife (I'm sure) dump their microwave ovens in

On a lighter note, we decided to launch an aluminium can competition at school. We spent Â£40 on can crushers and bins, made posters, fired the kids with enthusiasm......four days later.......the can crushers are mangled, the top of the bucket is mushy with juice and the bins are full of four day old tuna sannies........it's hard work this recycling

Did you get your recycling boxes, then, Portocat? We were very excited to get ours last thursday, only to then wonder how much rubbish they think a family of four generates, if they'll only empty them once a month!
