Radio Free Porty : potential licensing deal with live-cast

We have been offered a fully licensed stream of the same capacity that we currently broadcast at (10 users, unlimited data transfer, 64kbps) by this company :

I can't remember where I found them - was it someone on here who recommended them (if so, thanks!)?

Anyways, the cost is Â£25 per month. This is a complete hosting and licensing fee as live-cast.co.uk already have PPL licensing and are just about (so they say) to get their mcps/prs.

I have Â£160 waiting to be spent on a year's hosting - shall we spend it on 6-months' worth where we can play anything we like?

If I get a "yes" from enough of you, or if there are no major objections, I'm going to go ahead with this once I have checked in with the mcps lads.

Â£300 per annum sure does beat Â£1600 !!

According to the mcps, live-cast are NOT licensed, nor are they in a position to tell us that we can broadcast through them. They have "had discussions" with them in the past, but that's it.

I'm really sorry if I have given false hope. Just wait til I phone live-cast back and confront them.

thanks wangi. just got off the phone with kevin coy of livecast. mcps internet director is out of the country but back on thursday, so he says.

livecast are claiming their license is all but in the bag, but given that it's my neck the mcps will go after and not theirs, i am very dubious!!!

live-cast.co.uk don't have their mcps yet

yes they will, and i have had it confirmed it will be me and not livecast that gets pursued

2. "Jez Bell (mcps business unit director) is out of the country for a couple of days"

no he isn't, he was out of the office today but was in yesterday and will be in tomorrow

So -

1) the mcps are getting back to me on the license status of Livecast.

2) the mcps say that their hands are tied in terms of licensing for 2005, but that in january 2006 a whole new package will come about

mcps dude - i know you're reading this - please come and tell us all. we would love to speak to you!!!

I've just spoken to mcps dude as well (the phone was engaged when I first called him, but I called back a minute later - he'd been on the phone to you Dadaist!).

He told me that he didn't know the details of the new package they're putting together, but it will work from the start of January, that it would be considerably cheaper, and that we should definitely be able to afford it.

Now considering he knows the sums of money we've been discussing, from reading this forum (he'd "skimmed" my letter - don't blame him - I only skimmed it and I wrote it!), maybe we'll be ok.

colleagues, to find a thread discussing the licencing situation with
the MCPS/PRS.

I thought I would email you and just clarify a few points, because it
seems some information is not quite correct or adding up from your
point of view.

i've had 2 bits of bs from live-cast - specifically -

This is quite honestly what we were informed on earlier in the summer,
and to this day, there has been no problems with any of our current
list of clients. Even if there should be, we have requested the
clients to forward us any communications, which would then be raised
in our continuing meetings with MCPS.

I'm not quite sure who you spoke to there, but I would like to find
out so that I can personally follow this up with them.

He must have lied to my company chairman then! We were informed that
a conversation that needed to take place would be delayed because Jez
was in Russia until that Wednesday.

So -

I am interested to hear what they are actually saying about LiveCast,
because from what I am reading, it is obviously not what they are
saying to ourselves. Have you had an outcome from them regarding this
yet?

2) the mcps say that their hands are tied in terms of licensing for
2005, but that in january 2006 a whole new package will come about.

I am fully aware of the MCPS/PRS plans for January 2006.

LiveCast remains committed to providing quality stream hosting and
licencing services, and our licencing deal with PPL remains in place,
and will be joined in the very near future by an MCPS/PRS deal.

My reply was that he should forward this mail to Jez Bell (MCPS internet director) and cc me in with the response. I've had enough of this ping-pong with Livecast saying one thing and the MCPS saying another.

Are Livecast legal or not????

May I also remind you of your undertaking to get back to me on :

a) the legal status of the livecast stations

b) the difference between my treatment and that of the livecast stations, especially given that you said we were not being "picked on"

So, this is the official MCPS line, received today.

Our position on Livecast remains the same. We cannot licence third parties through their service as we only licence the actual music service provider.

In other words, Livecast are talking rubbish.

Whilst we are endeavoring to continue to explore all avenues, and opportunities to resolve this situation, it is unrealistic for us to continue trading at this time.
