Bath Street Lane

I have just moved to Portobello and am really enjoying living here. It is such a friendly community and living so close to a beach and city centre is just wonderful.

My only slight concern is parking which appears to be a nighmare! Too many cars and not enough parking spaces.

On a couple of occassions I have had to park in Bath Street Lane. In doing so I have been subjected to police visits to my home and the threat of being taken to court by Jap Parts Garage as the owner claims the land belongs to him.

Can anyone help me with finding out the truth about Bath Street Lane? I was told that it belonged to the council and was due to be developed soon.

I would appreciate any comments/suggestions/information in this respect.

I rented a garage there for a while and the bloke from the Jap Parts garage was a nightmare...he was referred to by the taxi guys as 'the laird o' the lane' !

Tam (of Jap Parts) is a nice bloke - and a very good mechanic!

There is/was a problem with the access to the lane,when the Royal
Hotel was revamped!

Had thought that the situation, had been resolved?

Thank you so much for all your replies and information. It seems I'm on a hiding to nothing trying to find out if I can park my car in Bath Street Lane without getting the wraft of Mr Jap Parts since I'm finding it difficult to find out who actually owns the lane!

It seems such a shame that there are at least 15 untaxed old banger cars lying there and us residents can't find a place to park our car near our homes. It's even more shamful that Mr Jap Parts also parks his pick up lorry on Bath Street itself for many days at a time using up 2 normal parking spaces. He is indeed Laird of the Lane!!!

I might try to find out about renting one of the garages which I never thought of until you suggested it - thanks!

What a great website this is! I'm impressed.

You could try enquiring here about the ownership of the lane

land register.
