Chess Boxing

Post by Jackson Priest » 10 Nov 2005, 00:42

Thought I would draw your attention to this magnificent sounding sport, which I read about in the newspaper today.

Chess boxing is apparently, "A sport that combines chess and boxing. There are six rounds of chess, each lasting four minutes, and five of boxing, each lasting two minutes. The rounds take place alternately, beginning and ending with chess, with one-minute intervals. You win by a knockout in the ring or checkmate on the board. In the event of a draw in the chess and no knockout, a points winner can be declared on the basis of performance in the ring."

Forgive me if everybody is already aware of this, and has been spending alternate Thursdays practising this exciting combination of the pugilistic and the cerebral at the Bellfield Chess Boxing Association. If so, can I join in? Well, maybe just the chess part.

Am listening to the above track right now. Toad style.

I think the rules to the Wu Tang's version of Chess Boxing are slightly different however. I don't remember any killer bees being mentioned in the Chess Boxing I read about.

My hip hop will rock and shock the nation like the emancipation proclamation.

I can't decide if my favourite line is

"Well I'm a sire, I set the microphone on fire
Rap styles vary, and carry like Mariah"

or

"Here I go, deep type flow
Jacque Cousteau could never get this low"

That's out of the printable, non-profanity filter inducing lines anyway.

I'll show you the video sometime.

There are loads of people in the Wu-Tang clan with names like GZA, RZA, Method Man, Ol' Dirty B*****d, Shaekwon, Inspecta Decks, Ghost Face Killah etc etc plus all their "associates"

They are dressed in hooded tops with their faces covered, dressed either in black or white and on a chess board, waving swords around.

But when each does their bit, they are in a different setting in a ruined bunker, dressed differently, my favourite being this wee fat guy with gold teeth and a keffiyeh (arab headscarf) crudely tied round his face, with the spraypainted words "PLO style" next to him.

It's a classic slice of hip hop.
