Cinnamon

Post by DG » 08 Dec 2005, 19:41

Just had a very nice carry-out meal from the newly opened Indian carry-out, Cinnamon (249 Portobello High Street). Don't know whether to be happy or concerned that this place has opened so close to our door :?
A bit too tempting.

Definately worth a try.

Do they do delivery? I am going to be stuck in babysitting tonight with an unusable kitchen due to the 7th leak from upstairs in the last 6 months, in a very bad mood, and I will require a curry and beer very soon I think. Especially beer.

Yes, JP they deliver - even (embarassingly!) just across the road from them. Their number is 669 5090 and they delivered within 30 minutes.

Thank you. Embarrassing for me too, as it is about a 20 yard walk, hence my need to explain.

not sure about the broken news - it just makes me want to get my tapes of The Day Today out.

Like the raspberry beer though.

Finished work tonight and neither of us could be a*sed cooking, so decided on a takeaway. However, it was too embarassing to ask Cinnamon to deliver  , but couldn't be bothered walking the 25 yards to collect (5 yards down the road from JP) either - double

Anyway, ordered from Bonoful instead as it's always good. Was a bit worried though as had seen 2 Xmas parties in there as my bus went past on the way home and the thought of not eating until about 11.30 wasn't that appealing, but shouldn't have worried as it was delivered in.........wait for it..............20 mins. Think we should have all sat in our houses last Friday and ordered a takeaway, then sat in front of the PC's and had a 'virtual' Xmas party!

Am about to obey order! Sir!

Rutland Weekend Television? Did that spawn the Rutles? Might watch that later as a tender tribute to the late Ron Nasty, the anniversary of whose death is, I believe, today.

Thanking you all.

Well, I ordered a takeaway from Cinnamon. Excellent it was too.

I sometimes find that indian takeaways don't always travel too well, but I suppose this one didn't have to travel very far. I was annoyed however to find myself making excuses as to why I couldn't collect over the phone, but they didn't seem to mind. So thumbs up from me.

I went for the Mushroom Omelette with French Fries, and drank some superb Raspberry Beer, as instructed.

Sorry Pal of Porty - I lied for comic effect (I know, I know, it wasn't in the least bit funny.)

What I really had was vegetable dansak, basmati rice and garlic nan bread.

How it fared in comparison to my other 2 favourite Porty curry places (I always get the same thing):

Vegetable dansak: as good as Bonoful - better than Prince Balti
Basmati Rice: better than both - lots of fresh herby and spicey bits and pieces in it as well
Garlic nan bread: poss not as good as both the above, but better due to the fact it only had to travel 20 yards, and arrived warmer and fresher.

All in all, really good, quite cheap too, and I will definitely go back.

JP.

Can't wait to try it. Just hope there is enough business to sustain all these new takeaways but I'm sure POL members will do their best to support them.

However, I do object to cross-subsidising you lazy so and so's who can't walk < 100m down the road! You should be paying a £5 LB tax each time.

I think we need to re-run the best takeaway poll sometime soon.

Well I didn't wait long. King Prawn Jalfrezie and Green Herb Chicken - both very good indeed. It's great to watch your dish being cooked and we are now fast becoming spoilt for choice for good takeaway food in Portobello.

We had a takeaway from Cinnamon through the week and the chicken tikka is almost as good as Omar Khayyam's. :D

We even managed to go across the road for it

We've eaten from there twice now. Once I went by myself for a late night curry (just back from London) - very nice. The second time I went with my veggie partner. We were looked after well each time.

I'm enthused. The initial signs are very good although, yes, we must admit that its often the case that the quality goes down hill after opening. I hope not!

Had a splendid meal from there tonight too and so very reasonable.
They chucked in some pakora and a bottle of decent wine too.
The Chicken with mango (dil ruba or something?) was ace.

The peshwari nan and mushroom rice that I had along with were also scrummy. I could eat it again right now in fact.
