HEY THERE!!!!

Post by Uranus XIV » 15 Dec 2005, 22:26

Hey there,

this is my first time so just saying hi. Lived here and in leith for over ten years. Very happy to be back though.

Wanting to get involved in some community things. Actually thinking about setting up an amateur dramatics group. If anyone interested please get in touch. Think we should take advantage of the resources we have and start puting on some great shows. It'll be fun, cultural and a creative release.

GET IN TOUCH, don't just think about it, DO IT!!!

Love Uranus XIV

Hey there nice to get some replies so quickly. Hi guys, its so nice to talk to other portiers (if there is word - there is now!)

Just explaining the Da Vinci Code to me little gay best friend!

Anyways, any thoughts on the am dram group - do you think it would go down well here !???!!!

I do, I think there must be loads of talented people dying to get some creative energy out of them down here!?! Tonnes...I know I do. Its a NEW YEAR!!!! make it your New year resolution to explore your creative side - I was thinking of starting off with a bit of Chekov and then maybe some Berkoff and I would also love to hear from some people who fancy a bit of co-playwriting themselves! lets GET IT ON!!!!

Of course still gotta secure venues but lets get the peeps firST!!!!!

Welcome to the forum Uranus XIV. Refreshing to read such enthusiasm on here.

Amateur dramatics eh? Maybe Porty could be persuaded to tread the boards again. He's POL's only thespian as far as I'm aware.

Perhaps you could start with something a little lighter in mood than Chekhov or Berkoff? How about a good old Whitehall Farce?

I sold Steven Berkoff a bottle of Becks once. He paid himself - his wallet was stuffed with pound notes. He had two sycophants with him. I refrained from mentioning Rambo and instead stared at his bullet scar.

I'd have mentioned "heavy electricity" myself. One of his finest performances.

There is already a Drama group at St Philips Church, although we tend to do Musicals rather than plays.

This year's show is "Brodie! The Musical", written by two of our members, at the George Square Theatre in March.

Beg to differ, marya- there is another thespian in our midsts - next time you see epykat, just take her aside and whisper "Dracula Spectacula" in her ear, and watch the response.

I thought there maybe was a drama group, but couldn't find anything on the 'groups' page. I'm surprised that Chekov is though of as 'heavy' I thought THE CHERRY ORCHARD might be nice and light to start with. Anyway, will have a think on it. Much research to do first, and of course it always depends on the enthusiasm of the response of locals. And wouldn't want to step on any other groups toes too of course!! I started Muscial Theatre at college and find them much more difficult what with the added stresses of competant singing and the dreaded dancing routines! Happy holidays for the time being everyone!!
