An Open Apology

Post by Jamesie » 19 Dec 2005, 21:44

When I invited hiboz to join the forum back in the summer I felt through his natural "devil's advocate" persona he could inject some liveliness into a debate which I felt was becoming somewhat one-sided in my view.

What I did not anticipate, or have knowledge of when I posted this, was the personal attacks which were made on a POL member. While I am still not aware of exactly what was said, and haven't had any contact with hiboz since the incident in question, I apologised to Dadaist for having invited hiboz to the forum at the time as I gleaned from others that hiboz had gone out of line.

Having read over some of the threads from the time I realise that that apology should have extended to many others on POL and therefore please treat this as an apology to the forum. While I felt hiboz could bring a valid edge to the debate I was wrong.

Jamesie

Same here Jamesie, welcome back.......wondered where you'd been.

Nothing wrong in inviting someone onto a board to add to a debate, and not your fault that the person invited then went too far.

Of course there's nothing wrong in inviting someone onto a public forum. Unlike "Mate Of Marya" and "Pal Of Porty" though, it wasn't obvious to everyone that there was any connection between Hiboz and Jamesie. If I invited someone to a party I think I'd introduce them to the people there on arrival.

Good for you but it would not breach posting guidelines if you chose not to publicly introduce them, so Jamesie is in no way at fault.

I hope you accept Jamesie's apology Dada and don't try to restart the debate. What is done is done, Jamesie has apologised. Here on POL there is a growing tradition of open apolgy and up until now they have been graciously accepted, xmas or not.

I refer you to my questions in the other Hiboz thread.

Thank you but as far as this matter goes I am only interested in the future. Which will surely be brighter if a rehabilitated Jamesie is included.

In my book, and I believe the posting guidelines agree, Jamesie has been nothing but a good POL citizen.

BTW this is a Jamesie open apology thread not a Hiboz thread, no matter how much you want it to be.

Precisely why I have asked the questions I have.

Yes, I am sure that there is no mention in the posting guidelines for what Jamesie did.

Jamesie has apologised for inviting Hiboz onto the forum. My questions relate to the period of time in between the invite and the second (final) expulsion of Moncrieff/Hiboz where Jamesie stated that Hiboz had contacted him "through his website".

Guess we'll all have to now make a 'full and frank' introduction, as well as listing all possible linkage, before inviting anyone to join this website.

And then, if they do contravene site rules, we'll have to instantly apologise on their behalf, as of course, they're not responsible for anything they do, it was all because we pointed them in the direction in the first place.

Sorry, Dadaist, but I think you're out of order with this.

Or maybe it depends what you bring them here for and what you tell them.

Oh, and perhaps what they say about your intended target's family.
