A Friday occurring on the 13th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in many superstitions around the globe.
Strangely, there is evidence to suggest that Friday the 13th is actually unlucky for some. Psychologists have found that some people are especially likely to have accidents or fall ill on Friday the 13th. This has been attributed to such people feeling a heightened state of anxiety on that day. Â£Millions is lost in business each Friday the 13th because some people will not travel or go to work.

I tried to translate it to other languages on Babel, but looks like its only has an English equivalent

You don't have to go that far... Edinburgh Airport doesn't have a gate 13 (you've got 12a, 12b and 14) and you'll be boarding a plane that doesn't have a row 13...

Lots of streets don't have a house numbered 13 because they don't sell so well. Councils (including where I live) don't include 13 when they are doing postal numbering.

There is also a statistical bias towards choosing the number 13 in games of chance like the National Lottery. When the number 13 is drawn in the Lottery, prize money is usually lower because so many people choose this number and the therefore the prize money gets shared between more people.

Well I lived at number 13 for the first fourteen years of my life and I can't remember any particularly bad things happening so I have no superstitions about the number. As for hotels not having a thirteenth floor (in name),do the people who are on the fourteenth floor not know that they are really on the thirteenth floor anyway

You're absolutely right though. Punctuality is so over-rated. My job starts at 8am. Sometimes I arrive at 7:59, sometimes at 8:01 - I like to think it balances out. I never arrive at 7:30, though some of my colleagues do. More fool them.

You should try flexi-time, Bob!! Some of those who troll in at 7 am seem to think they are 'virtuous' compared to those who come in later [but then, of course, stay on later]. I sometimes wonder if they realise the point of flexi-time

Same here! I'm not one of the early 'virtuous' starters, who are always v welcoming with their "good afternoon" 'jibes', but then again I don't disappear out the door at 4.00pm sharp every day!

Didn't realise it was " Friday 13th" until about six o'clock tonight!!!

Sometimes I don't even know what day it is!!!!
