Paedophile Teachers
Paedophile Teachers
Watching the news last night I felt scunnered when I heard Ruth Kelly announce that even those people who have been cautioned regarding sex "crimes" will be placed on the register and banned from teaching. I feel very uncomfortable about this.
Esp in the case of Mr Gibson - he and the girl have now been married for 20 years!!Epykat wrote:It's such a fine dividing line isn't it? Is an 18 year old man (or woman for that matter) who has sex with a consenting 15 year old girl/boy really a sex offender for instance?
It certainly shows lack of judgement at the time but hardly makes him a danger now?
Was he a teacher at the time? It's a difficult one with teachers and pupils. They are, after all, in a position of trust. It's like Doctors and patients. I'd be a bit worried about a teacher having a relationship with a student whilst the student was still at school and even more worried if they were anything less than 6th year - does that technically make him/her a paedophile? As I said, it's a very fine dividing line.Poppy wrote:Esp in the case of Mr Gibson - he and the girl have now been married for 20 years!!Epykat wrote:It's such a fine dividing line isn't it? Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
I think he was? That's partly what I meant about lack of judgement - applies anyway, but even more so in a position of trust.Epykat wrote:Was he a teacher at the time? I would have said that a 'true' paedophile is one who is sexually attracted to children BECAUSE they are children.
I agree. Certainly anybody who looks at and/or downloads child porn should not be given a second chance to work with children. Whether they would take the next step of actually putting it into practice is neither here nor there and they should be on the sex offenders list. I'd still tend to think that the 18year old/15 year old scenario is a different matter.Poppy wrote:I would have said that a 'true' paedophile is one who is sexually attracted to children BECAUSE they are children.

Mr Gibson is now 59 and was charged in 1980. By my reckoning he must have been 33 years old when he had his 'relationship' with his 15 year old pupil. I have no sympathy at all for the man. It just reminds me of that 'Little Britain' sketch where the girl marries her teacher.Poppy wrote:Esp in the case of Mr Gibson - he and the girl have now been married for 20 years!!Epykat wrote:It's such a fine dividing line isn't it? Interestingly enough, his ex-wife's parents still disapprove of him, even though he had 19 years of being married to their daughter to change their minds!

Our Education Secretary does have controversial beliefs.......
Seemingly, Ruth Kelly is a member of Opus Dei, a Roman Catholic orgainisation that follows a strict Vatican line on contraception, embryo research, cloning and abortion.
Ms Kelly, who has a responsibility for a £1 billion research budget, oppossed motions on embryo research in Parliament and is reported to have told Tony Blair that she could never support stem-cell research.
Leading scientists are concerned that the Education Secretary's conservative views on stem-cell research could affect vital science in Britain.

He is allowed to work with the 16's and under but only when accompanied by other staff members. He is not allowed to take sessions on his own.Mate of Marya wrote:I assume Rix will not be allowed to work with the under 16 squad since he has now found himself on the Sex Offenders Register.
With regard to being a family club, what Hearts have done is to offer someone employment who has done his crime and served his time. Why should he not be allowed to integrate himself back into society to follow his chosen career. The vast majority of the time he is working with adult males and the restrictions implemented regarding 16's and under provide safeguards. The club should be commended for its actions. Is prison not meant to be about rehabilitation?
Justice delayed is justice denied.
