Brave New Milk

Post by Dadaist » 25 Jan 2006, 14:26

I emailed Robert Wiseman Dairies today at 7:54 am :
Hello, just a quick question

When I buy a pint of milk, how long is it since it was in a cow?

This was puzzling me on the way into work today so I thought I would get the
answer straight from the horses' mouth.
I got an automated response sent at 11:51 am (presumably they are still busy milking the cow) :

That was from care@wiseman-dairies.co.uk. At 1.09pm I got the following from ascott@wiseman-dairies.co.uk :
Good afternoon

I have passed your e mail to our quality department .

Regards

Customer Service Department
I thought it was just a couple of guys on a farm, not a giant industrial bohemoth. They must have more than one cow, then.

Anyway, we'll see what the response is - or how many more departments in the chain there are!

I'd ask the milkman for you but since he comes between 2 and 3 am (much like other visitors in the niehgbourhood today  ), you've much more chance of getting the answer from the giant corporation side of it than from me and my milky.

I phoned the marketing department of so-called "Snickers" in 1995, to ask them to settle an argument as to what year they had changed their name from Marathon, and see if I could get a free box of so-called "Snickers", just for showing such a keen interest.

Still waiting for a reply.

Should that be straight from the cow's mouth?

Cripes - they must have plenty of churns and pails for all that milk.

At least there are plenty jobs for the milk maids - not only do they have to sit on their wee stools and milk the cows, but they have to pour the milk into those carton-thingies.

And then there's all the skimming.

I had to remind Wiseman's about my query. I did so today at 14:12
Hello, I feel my initial query has been shelved!

I know your quality department are very busy, no doubt with many milk and
dairy-related queries, but would appreciate a response to my query.

thanks in advance
...and got a response at 15:27 !!
Good afternoon.

In answer to your inquiry it is approx 48 hours.

regards
Amazing!

I am now beginning to wonder about whether this pertains to skimmed or whole milk, and also what other dairy products are made by this dairy giant. But I don't want to upset the nice people at Wiseman's quality department, or make them think I am pulling their leg.
