I would like to highlight a local news issue as a new resident of portobello/joppa. I moved to Morton Street in autumn of last year and am disappointed and disgusted at the dog fouling on the main pavements and on the promenade in Portobello and Joppa. I have myself stepped in this mess while stepping off a bus! There is plenty of green areas around. I am a dog lover and previous dog owner so i know it is the dog-owners responsibility.
I am originally from Fife and there are bins for dog waste, local awareness campaigns and free disposable bags made available, local wardens to issue any fines for dog fouling. Has this issue been highlighted before?

Dog fouling
I received this message recently:
There is definite problems with this in Portobello especially on High St, some owners are just so irresponsible as well as guilty. Actually saw dog owner last Saturday leave a steaming mound of poo in the middle of the street outside cancer research shop yuk. Some people shouldn't have dogs if they can't clean up after them and they give responsible dog owners a bad name.wangi wrote:But to be honest I don't see a problem with this in Portobello, in other areas of Edinburgh yeah...
It is quite bad just now and it gets all us dog owners a bad reputation even though I faithfully clean up after mine. I got a right mouthful from a "gentleman" a few weeks ago because my dog urinated against a wall. I try to be really careful about where he does this ie not against shops, cars, etc but unfortunately he has to do it somewhere and boy dogs especially like to mark their territory so won't perform to orders in the gutter. Other than carrying a pail of water with me everywhere I'm not sure how I can win on this one
