Portobelly Telly - the launch!

Post by Bob Jefferson » 24 Feb 2006, 10:46

Cancel everything. Get a babysitter. Dig out your tux or best frock. It's the Portobello Event of the Year - it's the official launch party for Portobelly Telly!

The event takes place on Friday 3 March in the main hall of Portobello Community Centre, starting at 7:15 pm. The launch party is open to everyone but we can only accomodate a maximum of 100 persons. To secure your place at this prestigious event you MUST let us know that you are coming. You can do this by sending me a private message or by emailing me at portyweb@blueyonder.co.uk

First come first served - book early to avoid disappointment!

The evening's entertainment will include screenings of short films by local film directors, all shot in Portobello, including the world premiere of Graham Kitchener's film, 'Bingo' and other never seen before Portobelly Telly gems.

We are splashing out with food and wine so please join us at this most glitzy and glamorous of occasions.

Gosh! I'm looking forward to seeing you all dressed up Bob. It will make a change from that old POL tee-shirt you usually wear

I'm not going to reply to everyone individually, but rest assured that everyone who has contacted me so far is guaranteed a place at the launch.

You can look forward to some of Findlay's finest sausages and cheese from Kitcheners. And there might be the odd bottle of wine or two I imagine.

We have some fantastic film offerings and it's going to be a tough decision as to what we screen on the night but at some point during the proceedings we will 'switch on' Portobelly Telly and the whole world will then be able to enjoy it, until it crashes anyway.

Well done Bob!

Today's Evening News - page 22 - "Switch on to Portobellovision"

As I have been exceptionally lucky to see some advance previews I'd like to congratulate our new star, 6 year-old Cally Booth-Lewis, who has provided us with a great animation.

*very well done Cally*

At least I can say that I knew Bob before he was an executive producer and Bearcub before he was Jamie Oliver. Guys, please don't forget us when it starts raining cash!

Don't imagine that I haven't already thought of it. Then there's the documentary of the making of the film.

Sorry you're going to miss out. We haven't quite got the resources for a live webcast yet.

Those of you, like Catz, who can't come along tonight will be able to access Portobelly Telly from around 7:45 tonight when we press the big ON button live from Portobello Community Centre.

I did a quick search for "dvd ripper" and got this one - but I have never used it :

hopefully someone will come through for you - just beware, as this may involve copyright (you need permission) and copy protection (breaking it may not be cricket)

Why on earth did we go to the pub when we still had wine left? Anyway, thanks to everyone who made the night such a success - particularly Stephen for the audio-visual wizardry, Marya and Epykat for the catering (and general wonderfulness), Dadaist for bar tending duties and everyone else for coming along and helping us to celebrate the launch.

Portobelly Telly - The Launch

Post by Brenda » 04 Mar 2006, 12:25

Well done Bob and the team! A great launch and we didn't need Gail Porter!
The variety of films on the site is fantastic - yet another indication of the number of talented people living here.
Now that we have our own newspaper, website, radio and TV, what's next?

Launch Party

Post by Spree » 04 Mar 2006, 22:37

A great Launch Party. Thanks to everyone for all the hard work. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. The films had us laughing, then thoughtful by turn. Well done the film-makers. We look forward to future productions.
