May I be the first to congratulate user "Plug" on being member no. 500 of POL.

A fine name - not only a famous comic character and useful sink/bath device, but also the drum&bass pseudonym of Luke Vibert / Wagon Christ who produced the legendary "Plug 1", "Plug 2" and "Plug 3" eps as well as the full-length "Drum & Bass For Papa" album.

Wet hip-hop outfit "De La Soul" (a bit like Cypress Hill with all the cool stuff removed) have a member called Plug One also.

Does anybody else know any famous kinds of plug, or maybe have anecdotes relating to plugs?

Give it up for POL member 500.

I was told once that when you wire a plug, the live wire should be tight and the earth have a bit of give so that if the cable gets a sharp tug it will be the live wire which comes out first - breaking the circuit - as opposed to the earth coming out which would be dangerous.

Is that correct?

I quite fancied going to see them at the Liquid Rooms next month actually. I never thought of them as wet before.

I can't think of any interesting plug related stories just now.

I found the video for Muse's "Plug in, Baby" very creepy though.

It featured many gorgeous women but these lovelies had writhing, wriggling flexes and wires where their legs should have been.

Is that the kind of thing you're looking for Dada?

Sounds good to me. I was always taught that when wiring a plug the rule is: bRown to the Right and bLue to the Left and anything else up the middle

Are you being serious here or are you tickling our turnips?

Just don't go tugging too hard would seem to be the safest course of action.

Is Mr DG not a joiner? Not much good in a electrical situation

Def better with Mr E or even Epykitten the Horrible who is training to do things with wires and fuses. Now, fuses are good things. If you don't have a fuse you're in trouble. Even Plug would be toiling to function without a fuse.

I don't know how they work, but the main boards in houses these days don't seem to have fuses on them - just switches which trip and can be re-set.

I knew DG was a joiner but assumed that, especially as he does jobs like loft conversions, he would know his wires or know someone that does.

Edinburgh had power cuts and surges just this week - Barnton had blackouts and nextdoor had surges as they changed some switch thingy. People were advised to unplug everything in their house (!) and leave a single bulb on so that they would know when things were back to normal.

Bread bins have plugs?

No, but they do have burglar alarms - intermittently - when you have a sensor with an intermittent fault - you wire it up to your bread bin and it goes off at 2am - apparently

My friend brought back GNAGL on dvd from Thailand, so I have watched it in the comfort of Dada Towers.

It's short, has loads of excellent dialogue, is understated and powerfully shot. It drips and seethes with emotion even though it's just looks between people.

The Cloon directed and wrote this - it's some string on the bow.

Mr Poppy and I went to Good Night and Good Luck. Really enjoyed it esp as we had a glass of wine from the ice cream boy!

I liked it as it told an interesting story well, did not last for hours, did not have endless CGI (in fact none unless one counts the intercutting of real footage of McCarthy) and did not have over loud music crashing about - just the wifie singing in a studio between "Acts".

I'm not a huge Clooney fan - but god does he look good even wearing a vest under his shirt as in this film!
