BBC4 are re-running the hit series Life on Mars starting tonight along with a week of other films, programmes and music from that year.

Some interesting stuff coming up

1973

Poppy's hunky photo was probably taken around this time?
I was in second year at PHS in 1973.

All I remember about that particular year was doing a year of Latin with Mr. Lowther.

I still recall the books we read - Ecce Romane! Flavia et Marcus - the Janet and John of their day.

I remember 1973 because my sister got married and I was a flower girl. Best bit was that I had grown out of my dress before the big day and they had to quickly shove a frill round the bottom and sew me in

I got latin with the same teacher. Latin Lowther. I was in 3rd year in 1973 I think? I thought that it was only the top two classes that got Latin, how did Epykat sneak in.

The hunks photo was taken in 1974, April.

I did Italian at school briefly too. The things we had to do to make up for no playing fields.........

Actually, I was in 1st year in 1973. Clever enough to do some Latin but not simple arithmetic it would seem.
So, no Latin Lowther just then for me.

Instead, I would have been down in the annexe enjoying the tales of the Little House on the Prairie as read by the lovely English teacher that was Mrs Main.

You had me doubting myself.

I erred in saying that it was only the top two classes, it wasn't. At the end of first or second year, the top two students in each class were pooled together to form two latin classes. Myself and Shirley Marshall (now Mrs Brian Monteith) were the "lucky" candidates from 1c16.

This obvioulsy explains the mystery of how Epykat got involved as even the dumbest classes were represented. Ignoratum non excusat, so to speak.

Latin Lowther had a Cravat, yes?

Ha! You've got a cheek casting aspersions against Epykat.

I know it's against our rules to point out spelling mistakes but I had to stop reading the PHS/Golf course thread at one point because of the number of times the word "feasibility" appeared as "feesibility or "feesability".

It was a tad ironic that these kinds of errors were being made on a thread pertaining to the education needs within our community.

Anyhoo, I remember you once told us the reason for your crappy spelling was down to chair height/angle to keyboard type scenario and that's good enough for me.

Yes, I remember him as being a dapper, wee chap. Totally enthusiastic about his subject and a pretty decent bloke.
He did wear cravats, and I also recall some story that did the rounds about him driving his car into one of our local lochs - St. Margarets or Dunsapie- when smoke started billowing from under his bonnet????
