A few days ago I was getting ready for work and a man in a yellow hi-vis vest knocked on the door and asked when he could have access to the property, as Scottish Water is carrying out repairs in our street. I suggested he contact my mother and passed on her mobile number.
As I was leaving he jumped out of a van, with a company name on the side and queried the number with me before thanking me and heading back to his vehicle.
On Friday I came home to find some minor works had been carried out in the common stair, and my mother telling me the chaps would be coming on Tuesday to access underneath our floors. When my mother had queried what the situation would be in terms of repairs to laminated flooring etc they couldn't give her an answer.
This, coupled with the fact no-one in our stair had any written intimation of these repairs, prompted me into action this morning. Calls to both Scottish Water and Edinburgh Council revealed no record of any repairs being required or requested.
Representatives from Scottish Water and Lothian and Borders Police should be arriving at my house any moment now to greet these workmen and seek an explanation of what works they are carrying out and under what mandate, if any.
May be something in nothing, but a cautionary tale nonetheless.

Complete miscommunication between Scottish Water/Edinburgh Council rather than anything more sinister.

A very unsatisfactory ending to this story, which started so promisingly. I feel cheated.

In fact, could someone try re-writing the ending? Make it a bit more exciting?
