Hearts v Gretna

Post by Porty » 09 May 2006, 16:21

I've been to see Hearts in 3 or maybe 4 Scottish Cup finals and I saw then win it the last time I went. This Saturday ought to be a bit of a walk-over or am I tempting fate?

I know our very own Bob will be shouting for Gretna and I hope they enjoy their day. It must be so exciting coming from such a small place and going to a big occassion. It would be a good day to go house breaking in Gretna!! However, if I was Leith- based burglar I would take the day off, as yet again the locals will not be going to the Ball.

I am looking forward to a wonderful day - it's not too often that Edinburgh sides get to the Scottish Cup final. It was brilliant the last time and by the way, I am not 104 years old!

Or saunter over Tynie-way for a change of scenery :D

Fair play to the Hearts supporters this season, their team have done well considering the obsticles put in their path by Romanov.Enjoy the next 2/3 seasons, I'd wager they will be your last.

btw, your not tempting fate, unless Kenny Deucher can become my new Saint Albert Kidd, I'd wager you'll win by 3 or 4 goals. :(

You might not be wrong there Franck - It has got foundations of sand written all over it, as Romanov could get his bank to call in the debts anytime he wishes. We were going down the tubes anyway so I am just enjoying it while I can. Makes up for all those years of purgatory.

Just finished watching the first part of the BBC 2 documentary on Gretna FC. I'm sure that a lot of Hearts fans will see the final as a formality but I think Gretna might surprise them. What odds would you have got at the start of the season for Gretna to make the Scottish Cup Final and a place in the UEFA Cup?

I trained with Gretna on a couple of occasions back in the mid 70s as a teenager, but sadly I didn't make the cut. At that time Raydale Park was better known as a greyhound track and the dogs certainly drew a bigger crowd than the football team.

Bob, being cut by Gretna in th 70's does not rule you out of a potential starring role at Easter Road now.

Romancing the Cup

Post by Zargonian » 11 May 2006, 17:30

Come on ye Gretna!

With the romance of it all, Gretna deserve to win.
Specially after Hearts beat the Hibees in the cup.

Oh and btw Hartley's free kick WAS illegal, the ref did not whistle.
But being a weak referee, he let it go.

Mind you the keeper was at another game,as were the rest of the
Hibs team. :(

Oh did I mention that planning permission has been back dated for the Tynecastle Car Park Emporium yet?

Referee doesn't actually need to whistle, provided the wall has retreated the correct distance.

But I agree - "Moan the Gretna!"

Well played Scotland today too - 5-1 winners :o

This sort of thing infuriates me - people making a quick buck in such a manner.... the person selling the ticket obviously isn't a "true fan" and doesn't deserver to be in possession of it.

Remings me of the Live 8 (ok it was called something else maybe?) fiasco with the free tickets being sold on ebay. Different circumstances - but at tthe end of the day - still some scumbag planning to profit from an event in high demand.... :x

Planning on driving north if Hearts win, to hide in Pertshire for the evening, or otherwise down the M74 to Gretna to join the celebrations! :D

A moral victory for Gretna and I feel for Gavin Skelton, my man of the match. Fantastic performance and there is no doubt that these two teams will be playing against each other soon in the SPL. Well done Gretna!

Greta played very well, glad Hearts won but feel for Gretna too. Their manager was well overdressed tho! :D

It was on the edge of the sofa stuff at the penalty shoot out.

It was like watching Hibs play Hibs reserves.

Hearts were really bad. Gretna didn't have a clue. However, they almost pulled it off. A fantastic day for them and well done. The hearts fans gave them a standing ovation and well-deserved it was too. Our bus was very very quiet on the way home. People felt deflated but we still won it. So that makes 3 times in 50 years. Someone had a match progamme from 1956. Initially I thought it was in 3d until I reallised that was the price.

Boo-hoo.

Post by Zargonian » 15 May 2006, 09:08

Ah well, it was not meant to be.

What a game though.
Both teams could have finished it off in the dying stages.

Glad to see that Townsley hasn't lost the knack of taking kerrap penalties.
He was like that for Hibs, kerrap.

I had to endure the sea of brown - sorry maroon on my way to the hospital yesterday.

Thank heavens for sunglasses!
