Went out for a quiet walk around Porty this morning. Thought I might see Rebus or his pals who have been filming in the area, but instead found this in Bath Street.

How inconsiderate can the people who walk their dogs actually be

There is no way that this mound, which was of Great Dane proportions could have been missed or overlooked by the dogs owner, (and by the looks of it, it hadn't been missed by other pedestrians).

Did you see the offending owner

(not blaming the dog here)

Are you the offending owner

Did the films crews see it/stand in it/will they come back

What do the good people of this forum think should be done about it

I think that might well be the poo I avoided earlier!!!
Vile isn't it? Enough to make me want to move away from Porty. Although dog poo problems are an issue everywhere, I feel I can't walk anywhere in Porty without having to poo dodge.

Wish I was an environmental health warden or whatever they are called. Would love to give someone a ticket for letting their dog poo on pavement and leaving it there. Think I might be a power freak......!

it could have been a stray / lost dog,

Dave, you've just nailed a real bugbear of mine. Brighton Park for some reason (Rosefield seems much better) is particularly bad for dog dirt and as Chair of the Residents Association I feel I ought to do something about it. I know that the Environmental Wardens will come along with their camera and van, but I can't ever pinpoint a culprit/suggest the best time to catch bad owners. Anytime I see a dog in the park it is always followed by a responsible owner who cleans up after his/her pet, so who are the bad owners? I visit the park at different times of the day and know that Highland Fling Nursery also use it with the kids. The nursery staff agree that the situation at times is very bad and a real deterrent to them using the park with kids, but they are no wiser than I as to who is to blame

Poppy what do you suggest? Have you any tips you could pass on to the amateur sleuth?

Doubtful... hopefully next time, they'll get caught by the warden.

On a lighter note, in primary we used to call the lane behind the police station, Tollie lane.

Dog poo was not mentioned by my niece who was there yesterday.

Dave, they were filming round about the Parly today and are now probably on their back to Glasgow!

I've only seen it happen once down at the beach. The dog did a poo the owner watched and walked off. I steeled myself and challenged him. I immediately regretted it , he was hard as and just stared at me as if to offer a challenge. I just slunk away. The lesson is be careful, there are some unpleasant folk about.

Dave, yes it is disgusting when owners don't clean up after their dogs, but please don't think it is all dog owners. It does get the back up of dog owners who do clean up after their dog when this is brought up time, and time and time again on POL.

I don't think anyone would accuse all pooch owners of being culprits. I have never witnessed anyone abandoning their dogs poo (!), but there is a hell of a lot of poo on the streets/prom, so it is certainly more than a handful of people that do it.

I would love it if I saw an owner do this, follow them home and dump the poo on their doorstep, see how they like it! Oh, how I would laugh.

America and Canada don't have this particular problem. If they can have nice clean streets, then why can't we?

(p.s. can you tell this REALLY bugs me?)

Good idea!

Have witnessed owners not picking up their dog's poo but never been brave enough to confront them.

Back in my ancestral home if a dog disengages its load in places where people go, they are generally killed on the spot. Owners quickly get the message. Perhaps a dog-cull may be in order in Porty?

Stop blaming the poor dogs

As usual it is the irresponsible PEOPLE who do not do the cleaning up who are to blame. Surely you are not proposing a cull on them ?

Guess who is feeling a bit grumpy this morning and fed up of the anti dog brigade. Nobody ever comes on and complains about the amount of cats that come into your garden and **** there.

A cull on people would be okay if it was the right kind of people being culled.

Cats are worse than dogs and destroy gardens. They DO make a very good stew though.

have to agree about the cats, never really liked them but they LOVE my garden, but unfortunatly so do I and being 7 months pregnant I am soooo annoyed that I have to wear gloves which I hate just because cats love my garden so much Grrr

.....................................and before all the cat lovers complain, I don't actually dislike them but I am just fed up with dogs being blamed for all the poo in the world. I'm sure the fish etc in the sea are more than fed up with all our poo floating around out there

I am reliably informed that *fish swim along, swimmetty swim ... see the poo and eat the poo, crunchetty crunch ... fisherman comes along and catches the fish, catchetty catch ... sells fish to fish-shop ... YOU come along, buyetty-fish ... take it home and eat the fish, munchetty munch ... go to the toilet and divest yourself of the day's comestibles ... poo is flushed out to sea ... along comes a fish, swimmetty swim ... are you getting the picture? The cyclic nature of the food chain.

Next doors cat Hector used to spend most of his life in my house and when Freddie came along he was told in no uncertain terms who was boss. He's had a healthy respect for all cats ever since

Must admit tho I was surprised that Bess has acutally rubbed noses (eskimo style) with two cats recently and not so recently

and then obviously realising she should attack them, try to attack them. They win every time.

Actually your cat should be trained to use its box ... if it doesn't, then of course, it's the owner that's at fault.

My dogs use the doggy poo park! I know dogs are thick, but I trained them well and I walk them lots.
