Radio 2

Okay, so I've hit the big 4-0. But it isn't me that's getting older. It's Radio 2 that's getting younger. Isn't it? I mean, a while back I turned on and there was X-Ray Spex playing Oh Bondage ** *****. I mean to say, Judith Chalmers never played songs like that on Two-Way Family Favourites.

I'm not getting older. I'm not.

Say it ain't so, Joe.

Phew, that's a relief - I thought it was just me. And I saw a smashing pair of slacks in M&S the other day.

It'll be Urquhart's Coach Travel, Radio Times Readers' Offers and a tartan shopping trolley for you next, Alex!

Perhaps we should bombard Jonathan Woss with a campaign to get him to play some golden oldies from Edinburgh's finest punk bands?

We could request Top of the Pops (Rezillos), Ain't No Surf in Portobello (The Valves), Albert Tatlock (The Skids, classic B-side), Horrowshow Scars), to mention just a few that could do with a re-airing...

Interesting you should ask, as I have hard evidence that I don't (yet) need any such help ...

And there I was thinking that was going to be some very dodgy picture I really wouldn't want to see, being "hard evidence" you don't need viagra and all...! But no, it's Son of Surrealist! Yay... (But is it just me or is there some confusion about who the mother is?!)

He's lovely. When is he thinking of joining us?

But i could have saved you the trouble and given you one of mine for free...since nobody would buy either of them...

:D

Well, not usually one for sexist assumptions but after I typed "or Bride of" I realised that sounded well dodgy and was probably better deleted...

Aw Surrealist! Just think, the first place you can take her is to see the carbuncle on the beach. The experience will stay with her forever! (the first place my daughter was taken was Easter Road - but we won't go any further into that one!)

But Sunday afternoons just won't be the same without Desmond Carrington. Okay, so some of the music was dreadful (the only radio show where I've ever heard Don Estelle's Christmas songs) but he was just so.. damn... likeable.

Johnny Walker is worth the entrance fee on his own.

I was force fed Radio 2 from the age of 14. The worst thing was the Cliff Adams Singers and Sing Something Simple. I haven't recovered yet.

It looks like all the secret listeners are coming out in force! I was raised on Terry from birth. Wogan's winners, Fight the flab etc
I will miss Desmond too, he had a lovely voice. Can't stand Ed Stewart's show though, or "The organist entertains"or Sing something simple. I like Wossie though, he can be so cheeky.

Brian Matthews and his Sixties show on Saturday mornings is a great way to start the weekend.

Keep it to yourselves but I have recently found myself making a point of listening to Mark Radcliffe after 10.30. Always found him very entertaining. Problem is that if you don't retune the radio alarm before going to sleep you are woken by a woman with a very very radio 2 voice. Not a good way to start the day.
