Have seen the page before, but didn't expect to get to it this way!

Try this soon, before Google fixes its site!
1) Go to Google.com
2) Type in "weapons of mass destruction" (but don't hit enter)
3) Hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button, instead of the normal "Google
search" button
4) READ CAREFULLY what appears to be a NORMAL ERROR message.

It's known as Google-bombing, and it can be very funny and very effective. If enough sites link to the page using the phrase "weapons of mass destruction", Google automatically promotes the page to the top of its results.

It can also be very disturbing. A less savoury aspect to Google-bombing (PARENTAL ADVISORY STRONGLY SUGGESTED) is to enter the word "Jew" into the search box. Because the word "jew" is often used in an anti-semitic context (more neutral terms include "jewish" or "judaism") the first result page is very offensive. Google themselves are very concerned about this.

Never heard of it - thanks. Sounds potentially very awful - perhaps even more so as a member of an often-hated minority group myself. Was sent to me by some very left-wing (and minority group) friends who will be horrified to hear that.
But i do remember being sent the link to the page some time ago and finding it funny.
Perhaps we should try and get everyone to link to Surrealist's banana phone page?! Spread the banana phone jingly joy!

Came across another Google Bomb this morning. Type "miserable failure" into Google and then the "I'm feeling lucky" button.

And another one! Googling "Exit" takes you to Disney.com. The reason is that a lot of -- ahem -- disreputable web sites have a front page that says something like "Are you over 18 - Enter - Exit". Enter takes you into their own web site. Exit takes you to Disney, which no-one could possibly find offensive.

Unless, of course, you object to being taken over by corporate America.
