The following message, posted by 'natasha30', has been moved in order to maintain thread continuity:
Hi I was wondering If anyone knows if the funfair is still open at portobello, as I am planning taking my kids their on saturday. I have heard a few rumours going about that they are no longer their. ps If anyone can help i`d be very grateful

There are still amusement arcades... pretty good ones. And one of them even has a bowling alley (which, to my shame, I've never visited). But the fun fair has gone, I'm afraid, so no more big dipper.

I would say it's still worth a family visit when the weather is good. I'm not sure the amusement arcades are quite up to a whole afternoon's entertainment when it's raining though.

Have a smashing time, whatever you decide!

Oh probably round about the same time they decided we didn't need a paddling pool (it's a liability issue you know!)

I don`t think it`s right , the funfair was their for years.

the council are always spoiling peoples enjoyment.

I don`t know about anyone else but i`m a big funfair fan, and I think they should have a themepark all kids would love it.

I have been told, inside the ground floor of the new building on the Promenade they hope to open a CAFE BAR once it has reached completion. But I think an Amusement Arcade is better fun for trash people.

A cafe bar not my cup of tea lol. I heard they kept the arcades but I don`t like them much. We had the funfair at gypsy brae for the first time in 7yrs and my kids love it, When I told them that the funfair was no longer at portobello they where disappointed. Now they have to wait a whole yr before they come back 2 gypsy brae.
